Answer the following questions and collect the content required. Include the question before each answer. All answers must be complete sentences.

1. What do you need to design? (Type of communication) (5pts)
2. Who is it for? ‐ Audience (be specific and detailed ‐ gender, age range, income, likes/dislikes etc.) include 10 images of the audience your design is directed towards. (15pts)
3. What is your client’s goal? (5pts)
What are the benefits of it? (Solution ‐ what makes it different than its competition?) (5pts)
4. How will you proceed? What will you research and look at to design something better? (5pts)
5. List at least 10 websites where you can find research for your design. Include specifics on why you have used each particular site. (10pts)
6. List at least 5 locations you can visit to research. Include specifics on why you will visit each particular site. (5pts)
7. Provide at least 40 images that you have found as sources of research for your project (Ads, logos, packaging… etc). Include specifics on why you selected each image. (40pts)
8. Begin documenting your research in your process book. Your InDesign document should be set up for print, 8.5x11, facing pages. (10pts)
9. Upload your updated Process Book PDF document. Name your file with your first initial, last name, and the project name. (kdelaney-bbe-logo.pdf)

Through these projects you will gain a better understanding of; the principles of design, the practical skills needed to work effectively as a designer. You will also create two‐dimensional design concepts and sketches, and work effectively with color.

1. What do you need to design? (Type of communication) (5pts)

The design that is necessary to fit the criteria is something that is fun, approachable and that has forward thinking in case of future development or for the design process' growth and evolution in general; something that is fitting for the structure of the client's vision and request.

2. Who is it for? ‐ Audience (be specific and detailed ‐ gender, age range, income, likes/dislikes etc.) include 10 images of the audience your design is directed towards. (15pts)

The audience of the organization is the audience, itself; the demographics of the audience's diversity are touched on within the actual service of the participants as a whole and as a group. Because of this versatility in the audience as a group, the presentation must be approachable, meaningful and enjoyable without seeming saturated or too much like similar organizations. A larger group -- such as a city or a nation -- are targeted from the original design plan, which forms a necessity for the project to be reflective of this pursuit with its own form of expression and independently as an orchestra. The goal is not to function like or follow the same formula as an “early music” group, or even a classical group; looking to change the experience and the intrinsic value in coming to a live, classical music concert so that what one finds the same or similar value one would find in a modern concert as with a classical concert. Essentially, live concerts with an enrapturing form of entertainment, educational values built in and a focus on the community as a whole.

3. What is your client’s goal? (5pts)

The client's goals are to cater to an audience that is more socially or nationally inclined to listen to the music, be entertained by it and educated by it without finding themselves bored, outgrowing it, or to they, themselves, be considered too much like the other symphony or orchestral classical musical experiences found throughout the country, especially in Chicago. The vision is to keep from saturating both the music and the experience as others have done. It is not to function like a normal classical musical experience or follow the same formula as an “early music” group, or even a classical group. Ideally, they would like to become the “movers and shakers” of early music (and classical music more broadly) in North America, with a strong Chicago-based and international following.

4. How will you proceed? What will you research and look at to design something better? (5pts)

I will proceed in a manner that is both mature and upright as well as subtle and casual. Something that can uphold the original intent behind the classical music genre whilst also catering to the client's request for something not only more modern, but also more developed to the point of relating to the audience that is more casually relaxed than those who are too strict or restrained in and of themselves. It is probably better to be much more precise in decision making and not completely gear myself toward the typical designs that are available or that have been made in the past due to the necessity of something unlike what other competitors are usually inclined to do.

6. List at least 5 locations you can visit to research. Include specifics on why you will visit each particular site. (5pts)

- The Art Institute Of Chicago: I would visit the Art Institute because it has tons of arts that revolve around different time periods and styles regarding each time period, which is important for comparing different periods to each other and associating them to the point of modernization.

- The Library: There are tons of books on historical references and modern day events of which can be utilized for the purpose of organizing a musical event or learning more about how such would be constructed, and therefore also how one would design something for such.

- Millennium Park: At Millennium Park, there is the stage that is set up specifically for musical events. Because of this, that is a good site to look into for the design and the concept of how it functions and why it is attractive to others who would be interested in the arts at all.

- The Chicago Theatre: The Chicago Theatre puts on plays and probably also other forms of entertainment, such as symphonies and orchestras -- musical scores, I presume. That would be an interesting resource to research and delve into based on the fact that there is information there about presentation and design for musical composition and arts.

- The Internet: Naturally, the internet is the best source for gathering direct or extraneous information down to a specificity of what one needs or that is required for a project. Therefore, using this source as a method for design is more useful for finding out information that would be good for conceptual work or design process in general.
