PostSubject: Babylon; Lesser Key Of Solomon   Sat Mar 17, 2018 6:12 pm

First topic message reminder :

"The Original System Of Hell Based Upon The City Of David, Mt. Zion, Descended Into A State Of Corruption Into 'Bael', And Everlasting Rejuvenator Of The 'Name Of Baal' -- The Abominable 'City Of Babylon'."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lesser_Key_of_Solomon

For other uses, see Key of Solomon (disambiguation).
The Lesser Key of Solomon, also known as Clavicula Salomonis Regis[note 1] or Lemegeton, is an anonymous grimoire (or spell book) on demonology. It was compiled in the mid-17th century, mostly from materials a couple of centuries older.[1][2] It is divided into five books—the Ars Goetia, Ars Theurgia-Goetia, Ars Paulina, Ars Almadel, and Ars Notoria.

Ars Goetia
The most obvious source for the Ars Goetia is Johann Weyer's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum in his De praestigiis daemonum. Weyer does not cite, and is unaware of, any other books in the Lemegeton, indicating that the Lemegeton derived from his work, not the other way around.[1][4] The order of the spirits changed between the two, four additional spirits were added to the later work, and one spirit (Pruflas) was omitted. The omission of Pruflas, a mistake that also occurs in an edition of Pseudomonarchia Daemonum cited in Reginald Scot's The Discoverie of Witchcraft, indicates that the Ars Goetia could not have been compiled before 1570. Indeed, it appears that the Ars Goetia is more dependent upon Scot's translation of Weyer than on Weyer's work in itself. Additionally, some material came from Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa's Three Books of Occult Philosophy, the Heptameron by pseudo-Pietro d'Abano,[note 2][1][5] and the Magical Calendar.[6]

Weyer's Officium Spirituum, which is likely related to a 1583 manuscript titled The Office of Spirits,[7] appears to have ultimately been an elaboration on a 15th-century manuscript titled Le Livre des Esperitz (30 of the 47 spirits are nearly identical to spirits in the Ars Goetia).[2][5]

In a slightly later copy made by Thomas Rudd (1583?–1656), this portion was labelled "Liber Malorum Spirituum seu Goetia", and the seals and demons were paired with those of the 72 angels of the Shemhamphorasch[3] which were intended to protect the conjurer and to control the demons he summoned.[8] The angelic names and seals derived from a manuscript by Blaise de Vigenère, whose papers were also used by Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers (1854-1918) in his works for the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn[5] (1887–1903). Rudd may have derived his copy of Liber Malorum Spirituum from a now-lost work by Johannes Trithemius,[5] who taught Agrippa, who in turn taught Weyer.

This portion of the work was later translated by S. L. MacGregor Mathers and published by Aleister Crowley under the title The Book of the Goetia of Solomon the King. Crowley added some additional invocations previously unrelated to the original work, as well as essays describing the rituals as psychological exploration instead of demon summoning.

The demons are described as being commanded by four kings of the cardinal directions: Amaymon (East), Corson (West), Ziminiar (North), and Gaap (South). A footnote in one variant edition instead lists them as Oriens or Uriens, Paymon or Paymonia, Ariton or Egyn, and Amaymon or Amaimon, alternatively known as Samael, Azazel, Azael, and Mahazael (purportedly their preferred rabbinic names).[10] Agrippa's Occult Philosophy lists the kings of the cardinal directions as Urieus (East), Amaymon (South), Paymon (West), and Egin (North); again providing the alternate names Samuel (i.e. Samael), Azazel, Azael, and Mahazuel. The Magical Calendar lists them as Bael, Moymon, Poymon, and Egin,[11][12] though Peterson notes that some variant editions instead list '"Asmodel in the East, Amaymon in the South, Paymon in the West, and Aegym in the North"; "Oriens, Paymon, Egyn, and Amaymon"; or "Amodeo [sic] (king of the East), Paymon (king of the West), Egion (king of the North), and Maimon."'

Ars Theurgia Goetia[edit]
The Ars Theurgia Goetia mostly derives from Trithemius's Steganographia, though the seals and order for the spirits are different due to corrupted transmission via manuscript.[5][13] Rituals not found in Steganographia were added, in some ways conflicting with similar rituals found in the Ars Goetia and Ars Paulina. Most of the spirits summoned are tied to points on a compass, four Emperors tied to the cardinal points (Carnesiel in the East, Amenadiel in the West, Demoriel in the North and Caspiel in the South), sixteen Dukes tied to cardinal points, inter-cardinal points, additional directions between those. There are an additional eleven Wandering Princes, totaling thirty one spirit leaders who each rule several to a few dozen spirits.

Ars Paulina[edit]
Derived from book two of Trithemius's Steganographia and from portions of the Heptameron, but purportedly delivered by Paul the Apostle instead of (as claimed by Trithemius) Raziel. Elements from The Magical Calendar, astrological seals by Robert Turner's 1656 translation of Paracelsus's Archidoxes of Magic, and repeated mentions of guns and the year 1641 indicate that this portion was written in the later half of the seventeenth century.[15][16] Traditions of Paul communicating with heavenly powers are almost as old as Christianity itself, as seen in some interpretations of 2 Corinthians 12:2-4 and the apocryphal Apocalypse of Paul. The Ars Paulina is in turn divided into two books, the first detailing twenty-four angels aligned with the twenty-four hours of the day, the second (derived more from the Heptameron) detailing the 360 spirits of the degrees of the zodiac.

Ars Almadel[edit]
Mentioned by Trithemius and Weyer, the latter of whom claimed an Arabic origin for the work. A 15th-century copy is attested to by Robert Turner, and Hebrew copies were discovered in the 20th century. The Ars Almadel instructs the magician on how to create a wax tablet with specific designs intended to contact angels via scrying.

Ars Notoria[edit]
The oldest known portion of the Lemegeton, the Ars Notoria (or Notory Art) was first mentioned by Michael Scot in 1236 (and thus was written earlier). The Ars Notoria contains a series of prayers (related to those in The Sworn Book of Honorius) intended to grant eidetic memory and instantaneous learning to the magician. Some copies and editions of the Lemegeton omit this work entirely;[19][20] A. E. Waite ignores it completely when describing the Lemegeton.[4] It is also known as the Ars Nova.

"The Four Horsemen Of The Apocalypse Are Released For Judgment Of The King Of The World And The Universe -- The King Of Kings -- At The Great Feast On The Great Day Of The Apocalypse. They Compare The King Of Kings To Themselves Using The Demon Lord System As Well As The Lord, To See If The King Of Kings Is The Lord Of Lords, Or If He Belongs Within The Demon Lord System Under Baal As Bael, OR Even As Belial. Therefore, At The Crossroads That Are Established By The Four Horsemen, Wormwood Is Hurled Down At Armageddon And The Seven Seals For The Seven Angels Of God's Wrath (His Own Seven Spirits) Are Released From The Earth Up Via The Stairway Of Heaven From Luz Because Of Lucifer Bearing The Light Of Baal Over All Mankind Through Reuben From Adam." - Altar

II. "Bael -- The Demon Lord System -- Restarts And Weeds Out Those That Will Become The Next Baal, Who Sets Up The Next Bael. In Order For This To Happen, The Four Faces Of God Must Be Reset After Being Summoned In Order."

III. "When The Demon Lord System Of The Devil Is Reset, The First Sacrifices Are Fed Into It -- Just As Before -- By Sacrificing Those Who Are Considered The Weaker Or Lesser Into Molek, Which Is A Self-Sacrificing And Self-Gratifying Production At The Expense Of The Weak In Order To Cover For A Perpetual Flaw Or Error."

IV. "The Four Horsemen That Control It And Come Together For The Control And Operation Of The System Reset And Restore All Contribute To The Demon God -- Baal -- For The Sake Of The Demon Lord System -- Bael."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Naberius

2 Samuel 10:19 "When All The Kings Who Were Vassals Of Hadadezer Saw That They Had Been Routed By Israel, They Made Peace With The Israelites And Became Subject To Them. So The Arameans Were Afraid To Help The Ammonites Anymore."

XXIV. " During The Time Of Siege, There Are Those Who Are Rebellious, Defective, Rogue, Renegade Or Generally Opposed That End Up Being Thwarted By An Official Who Is Capable Of Looking Into At Least Three Different Outcomes, Formations Or Solutions That Are Capable Of Cutting Off The Advancement Of Those Who Are Being Traced Before They Are Able To Continue With What They Have Been Attempting To Leech From The Source. This Official Teaches Others How To Trap Them By This Method Of Having Different Perspectives And Other Forms Of Wisdom That Is Kept Vague And Ambiguous So That Others Cannot Copy It And If They Do, It Can Be Altered Before They Finish -- Hence The Ambiguity, Or 'Rough Voice.' The Ones That Survive By Submitting After They Are Traced And Cut Off Are Given A New Task And A Different View Of Their Lives Once They Are Made Shame Of And Disgraced By The One Who Thwarts Them, And Serve Under Him Once He Restored Them. He Is Then Given A Command On Where To Place Them In The System And How To Instruct Them, Plus To Integrate Whatever They Have Done Into The System Rather Than Tearing It Down, Like Had Been Done With Whomever -Did Not- Survive And Submit." - Setting

The demon Naberius was first mentioned by Johann Weyer in 1583.[1] He is supposedly the most valiant Marquess of Hell, and has nineteen legions of demons under his command. He makes men cunning in all arts (and sciences, according to most authors), but especially in rhetoric, speaking with a hoarse voice. He also restores lost dignities and honors, although to Johann Weyer he procures the loss of them.

Naberius appears as a three-headed dog or a raven. He has a raucous voice but presents himself as eloquent and amiable. He teaches the art of gracious living. He has also been depicted as a crow or a black crane.

Concerning his name, it is unclear if there is an association with the Greek Cerberus. It is said that in 1583, Johann Weyer considers both of them to be the same demon. He claimed:

"Naberius [Naberus], alias Cerberus, is a valiant marquesse, shewing himselfe in the forme of a crowe, when he speaketh with a hoarse voice: he maketh a man amiable and cunning in all arts, and speciallie in rhetorike, he procureth the losse of prelacies and dignities: nineteene legions heare (and obeie) him."

Other spellings: Cerberus, Cerbere, Naberus.

The demon Naberius (also Naberus, Nebiros and Cerberus, Cerbere) was first mentioned by Johann Weyer in 1583.[15] He is supposedly the most valiant Marquis of Hell, and has nineteen legions of demons under his command. He makes men cunning in all arts, but especially in rhetoric, speaking with a hoarse voice. He also restores lost dignities and honors, although to Johann Weyer he procures the loss of them. I. "Naberius Is The Alias Of The Dog Of Hades -- Cerberus -- As Well As One Of The Names Of The Three Heads."

II. "Naberius Has A Very Specific Purpose Of Restoring Power And Honor And Dignity To Others In Order To Raise Them Up Over Other People Or To Their Original Standards So That They May Act As They Originally Did Before Anyone Lowered Them At All."

III. "After Those Who Have Lost Their Place Or Their Power Are Restored, He Makes Them More Cunning Than They Were Originally So That They Can Be More Intelligent Than False Prophets, False Lights And Rebels Altogether."

IV. "When Those Who Had Power And Honor And Dignity Are Restored And Given Greater Cunning, They All Overthrow Ipos (Even As Furfur) And Destroy Him Totally Because He Tried To Control Or Manipulate Them With Lies And Deceit For His Own Glory And Honor. Thus They All Turn Against Ipos Together And Destroy The False Prophet."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasya-Labolas

2 Samuel 11:14-15 "In The Morning David Wrote A Letter To Joab And Sent It With Uriah. In It He Wrote, 'Put Uriah Out In Front Where The Fighting Is Fiercest. Then Withdraw From Him So He Will Be Struck Down And Die.'"

XXV. "By The Time The Rogue Members Are Gathered Into The System, Weeding Out The Traitors And Singling Out Any Of Those Who Are Still Rebellious Both Within Ranks Or As Enemies Goes To The Next Official, Who Is The Leader Of An Army. He Gathers Them Up And Makes Enemies Into Friends Or Friends Into Enemies In Order To Destroy The Networks Or Make Them More Sturdy, Yet Generally Uses The Very Same People Who Have Turned Against Each Other Once Or That Do Not Work Well Together To Incite The Animosity Among Them Both During The Fight And Afterward -- This Causes Them To Kill Each Other Both In Battle Or Thereafter. He Gives Them All Of The Information That They Need To Be Friends For A Time, Be Enemies Or To Destroy Each Other And Allows Those People To Completely Be Wiped Out. Only The Actually Necessary People Will Remain And They Are Brought Back To The System Instead Of Left For Dead."

In demonology, Glasya-Labolas is a mighty President (and Earl to other authors) of Hell who commands thirty-six legions of demons. He is the author and captain of manslaughter and bloodshed, tells all things past and to come, knows all sciences, gains the minds and love of friends and foes causing love among them if desired, incites homicides and can make a man invisible.

He is depicted as a dog with the wings of a griffin.

Other spellings: Caacrinolaas, Caassimolar, Classyalabolas, Glassia-labolis, Glasya Labolas.

I. "Glasya-Labolas Is A Dog-Looking Demon Because It Pretends To Be Your Friend, When In Fact It Is Looking For A Way To Kill You."

II. "This Demon Tells Other Demons Who To Kill And How To Kill Them, As Well As Kills, Itself. This Is Meant To Regulate How Many Are Slain In Case The Destruction Is Too Great."

III. "In Order To Salvage Slaves And Servants, It Will Cause Them To Be Friendly To Each Other Temporarily So That The Units Can Be Restored, But At The Same Time Also So That Those Who Would Not Serve Can Be Killed In The Process Because Of Their Insubordination And Uncooperative Behavior Among Those Who Have Been Pacified By Evil."

IV. "It Is Also A Dog Because It Covers Tracks Of Those Who Kill Or Have Been Killed, Which Makes It Lovable To Those Who Are Evil. It Also Knows All Sciences So That It Can Formulate Ways To Accomplish Its Tasks Of Manipulation And Bloodshed In Tactical Fashions, Because It Is A Commander."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bune

2 Samuel 12:8-9 "I Gave Your Master's House To You, And Your Master's Wives Into Your Arms. I Gave You All Israel And Judah. And If All This Had Been Too Little, I Would Have Given You Even More. Why Did You Despise The Word Of The Lord By Doing What Is Evil In His Eyes? You Struck Down Uriah The Hittite With The Sword And Took His Wife To Be Your Own. You Killed Him With The Sword Of The Ammonites."

XXVI. "The Next Of The Leaders Is Sent Out When There Are No More Traitors Left And All Of The Enemy Networks, Systems Or Cities Have Been Tracked, Routed And Destroyed. This Leader Comes To Gather Up Those Who Are Rebellious And Turn Them Into Slaves And Workers That Go Under The Lowest Social Class Of The -Willing- People In The Society In Order To Make Them Feel Better About Themselves And To Dilute The Envy. Those Who Are Turned Into Slaves -- Known As 'Demons' -- Are Then Secretly Picked Through And Given Power, Status And Richness According To Their Obedience, Servitude And Willingness To Do The Dirty Work Of Others. The Rest Are Left As Slaves Whilst The Others Are 'Taken Up' Or 'Picked' Out Of The Masses." - Assist

In demonology, Buné is a Great Duke of Hell, mighty and strong, who has thirty legions of demons under his command. He changes the place of the dead and makes them demons that are under his power to gather together upon those sepulchres. Buné makes men eloquent and wise, and gives true answers to their demands and also richness. He speaks with a deep voice.

Buné is depicted as a three-headed dragon, being his heads like those of a dog, a griffin, and a man (although according to some grimoires he has two heads like a dragon and the third like a man).

I. "Bune Is A Great Duke That Transforms Those Who Are Under Servitude Into Demons After They Have Lost Their Souls And Their Bodies And Are Possessed By Sin."

II. "When They Are Emotionally, Spiritually And Physically Dead, He Salvages Their Minds And Makes Them Greater In Order For Them To Still Believe That They Are Useful And Great, Which Makes Them Wise. This Also Gives Them The Strength To Swear Allegiance With A Knowing Mind Because He Gives Them True Answers And Wisdom After They Have Come So Far."

III. "Bune Gives Men Richness And Answers To Whatever Their Desires Are So That They Will Feel Like They Have Accomplished Something And Do Not Turn Against Him Nor Feel Like They Have Done Something Wrong After Being Immoral. The Immorality Makes Them Susceptible To Doing Evil So That They Are Brainwashed Into Believing That They Can Do Evil For A Good Cause."

IV. "Bune Has Three Heads For A Reason -- One Is The Loyal Friend (Dog), So That He May Be Seen As Loyal And Friendly To Those Who Have Sworn Themselves In; The Next Is The Overseer (Griffin) So That None May Believe They Are Greater Than He And So That He May Watch Over All That They Do As Well As They, Themselves; The Final Is The Man So That He May Maintain His Judgment And Understand The Judgment Of Men Without Totally Succumbing To The Bestial Nature Of Dog And Griffin."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronove

2 Samuel 15:1-4 "In The Course Of Time, Absalom Provided Himself With A Chariot And Horses And With Fifty Men To Run Ahead Of Him. He Would Get Up Early And Stand By The Side Of The Road Leading To The City Gate. Whenever Anyone Came With A Complaint To Be Placed Before The King For A Decision, Absalom Would Call Out To Him, 'What Town Are You From?' He Would Answer, 'Your Servant Is From One Of The Tribes Of Israel.' Then Absalom Would Say To Him, 'Look, Your Claims Are Valid And Proper, But There Is No Representative Of The King To Hear You.' And Absalom Would Add, 'If Only I Were Appointed Judge In The Land! Then Everyone Who Has A Complaint Or Case Could Come To Me And I Would See That They Receive Justice.'"

XXVII. "Of The Slaves And Those Who Are Picked Out Of The Masses And Adorned With Gold And Silver, There Are Even More Intricately Picked Out Parties Who Are Considered 'Royal Servants' Of Those Who Have Picked Them; They Are Messengers And Secret Messengers, Which Establishes Them As Their Own 'Leader' Or 'Official' Amongst The Higher. There Is One That Is Greater Than Them All And Deals With Secret Underground Networking And Communication Among Those Who Are Left As Slaves Or Were Picked Up Out Of The Masses Secretly. This Head Official (Over The Other Lesser Officials In His Image) Gives Them Wisdom On How To Communicate Liberally, Rhetorically (In Order To Prevent Responses Or Retaliation) And Also Artistically, In Order To Creatively Cover Themselves And Their Works. Because Each Of Them Came From Lesser Networks And Secret Conspiracies, They Are Utilized For This Work Because Of Their Previous Traitorous And Treacherous History In Order To Make Use Of Their Skills And Previous Lifestyles. They Spend All Of Their Time Networking Secretly And Communicating Underground, As Well As Leading People Who Are Meant To Be Dealt With Secretly Into The Underground Or Secret Networks In Order For Them To Be Eliminated Secretly In The Darkness. No One Who Participates Ever Is Brought Out Into The Light And They Are Considered 'Secret Services' In Order To Protect Themselves And The Ones That They Attend To Without Being Exposed Nor Exposing Anyone Else. Thus They Lead The System Back Into Darkness Because Of Their Own Means Of Being Cheated Through The System And Are Perpetually And Eternally Being Covered Up And Cleaned Up After, Or Are Covering And Cleaning Up After Others During Networking And Secret Or Underground Communication -- The Most Major And Eternal Flaw That Sinks Every System Back Into Darkness And Causes It To Be Perpetually Imperfect. This Is The Point Of No Return; When There Are People Cheated Through The System And They Are Forced To Cover Themselves And Others In Darkness Or Via False Light."- Program

In demonology, Ronove is a Marquis and Great Earl of Hell, commanding twenty legions of demons. He teaches art, Rhetoric, languages, and gives good and loyal servants and the favour of friends and foes.

He is depicted as a monster holding a staff, without detailing his appearance. He is also described as taker of old souls; often coming to earth to harvest souls of decrepit humans and animals near death.

Other spellings: Roneve, Ronové, Ronwe.

I. "Because Marchosias Is A Cowardly Tattletale, Ronove Is Meant To Prevent Marchosias From Telling Everyone's Business And Possibly Compromising Higher Workings In The Devil's System Through Telling Someone That Shouldn't Know In His Cowardice Or Excitement."

II. "Ronove Knows More Than Marchosias Because He Can Keep A Secret. Ronove Is Also A Peacemaker For The Reasons Of Gaining Information And Eventually Telling His Superiors In A Fashion Unlike Marchosias -- He Is The Smoothtalker."

III. "Ronove Also Takes The Souls Of The Old Because They Are Generally Lingering Around And Not Doing Anything For Anyone At All, Plus They Are Easy To Pick Off And The Rewards From Harvesting Their Souls Is All He Really Ends Up Getting Rewarded With."

IV. "Ronove Also Has A Staff Because He Is A Commander. He Is A Shepherd, Which Is Why Marchosias Goes To Him, And Also Why He Makes Peace. This Keeps Malphas, Sabnock And Aamon From Turning Against He And Marchosias Together So That The Two Of Them Can Report To Higher Powers. Because Ronove Is Tight-Lipped And Mysterious, He Keeps His Appearance Low-Profile So That Information Does Not Slip Out To The Wrong Sources At The Wrong Times."

2 Samuel 15:5-6 "Also, Whenever Anyone Approached Him To Bow Down Before Him, Absalom Would Reach Out His Hand, Take Hold Of Him And Kiss Him. Absalom Behaved In This Way Toward All The Israelites Who Came To The King Asking For Justice, And So He Stole The Hearts Of The People Of Israel."

XXVIII. "The Underground Network And Secret Service Or Society Of People Made From The Slaves, Sinners And General Rogues, Renegades, Defects, Convicts, Felons And Anyone Else Who Is Considered 'Sin' Or 'Sinner' That Has Become Subservient Or Enslaved To The 'Devil System' Are Taken In And Sworn To Secrecy Under The 'Covenant Oath', Which Ties Into The 'Illuminati' And How It Is Formed As Well As Who Is Involved And Why They Are There. This Specific Head Official -- Known As 'Lord Of The Covenant' -- Takes Them In And Swears Them To Secrecy, To Fealty And To Eternal Servitude In Exchange For The Coverage, The Cleanup, The Protection From The Envious And Those Who Threaten Them As Well As For All The Riches That They Are Previously Given When They Are Snatched Out From The Dirt And Dressed Up In Gold And Silver; They Are Then Often Put Out In Social Media In Order To Make Their Names Publicized And Prevent Them From Being Able To Escape Their 'Contracts' Or To Change Their Identities. This Also Keeps Them From Speaking Out About The Secrets, Makes Them An Example To Others By Putting Them Out In Front And Keeps Them Under Control Based On The Public Eye -- Especially Those That Knew Them Or Have Held Grudges Against Them. They Are Then Used As Scapegoats And Sacrifices, Which Is Also What The 'Covenant', 'Oath' Or 'Contract' Is For When They Are Taken Into The Protection Of 'The System' -- Which We Know As 'The Illuminati'." - Presentation

Baʿal Berith ("Lord of the Covenant") and El Berith ("God of the Covenant") are two gods, or one god, worshiped in Shechem, in ancient Israel.[1] The term "covenant" (Hebrew Berith) appears also in Ugaritic texts (second millennium BCE) as brt, in connection with Baʿal,[1] and perhaps as Beruth in Sanchuniathon's work.

Judges is the only Biblical book that mentions Baʿal Berith and El Berith.[2][3][4] It is not clear whether they are separate forms of the gods Baʿal and El or are actually one god. Scholars suppose that he or they may have been worshipped for connections to fertility and vegetation, based on another passage in Judges.[5] Also unclear is what covenant or covenants are referred to by the name Berith. Elsewhere, some of the Shechemites are called "men of Hamor";[6] this is compared to "sons of Hamor", which in the ancient Middle East referred to people who had entered into a covenant sealed by the sacrifice of a hamor, an ass.[1] "Children" or "sons of Hamor" itself appears in Genesis[7] and Joshua,[8] in both of which, as in Judges,[6] Hamor is called the father of Shechem. Genesis also[9] features a man named Hamor who ruled in the area of Shechem[10] and had a son named Shechem.

Rabbinic tradition equates Baʿal Berith with Beelzebub, the god of Philistine Ekron.

In his euhemeristic account of the Phoenician deities, Sanchuniathon says that a certain Elioun, called also "the Most High", and a female named Beruth dwelt in the neighbourhood of Byblos, on the coast of present-day Lebanon. They had two children—a male called Epigeius/Autochthon/Sky and a daughter called Earth. Because of the latter pair's beauty, the sky and the earth, respectively, were named after them. According to Sanchuniathon it is from Sky and Earth that El and various other deities are born, though ancient texts refer to El as creator of heaven and earth. A relationship with Hebrew bərīt ("covenant") or with the city of Beirut have both been suggested for Beruth. The Hittite theogony knows of a primal god named Alalu who fathered Sky (and possibly Earth) and who was overthrown by his son Sky, who was in turn overthrown by his (Sky's) son Kumarbi. A similar tradition seems to be at the basis of Sanchuniathon's account.

The idol Baʿal Berith, which the Jews worshipped after the death of Gideon, was identical, according to the Rabbis, with Baʿal Zebub, "the lord of flies," the god of Ekron (II Kings i. 2). He was worshipped in the shape of a fly; and Jewish tradition states that so addicted were the Jews to his cult that they would carry an image of him in their pockets, producing it, and kissing it from time to time. Baʿal Zebub is called Baʿal Berith because such Jews might be said to make a covenant (Hebrew: berith) of devotion with the idol, being unwilling to part with it for a single moment (Shab. 83b; comp. also Sanh. 63b). According to another conception, Baʿal Berith was an obscene article of idolatrous worship, possibly a simulacrum priapi (Yer. Shab. ix. 11d; 'Ab. Zarah iii. 43a). This is evidently based on the later significance of the word "berit," meaning circumcision.

According to the Admirable History written by Father Sebastien Michaelis in 1612, Baʿal Berith once possessed a nun in Aix-en-Provence. In the process of the exorcism, Baʿal Berith volunteered not only his own name and the names of all the other demons possessing her, but the names of the saints who would be most effective in opposing them.

Berith (also Baal-berith) is a Great Duke of Hell, powerful and terrible, and has twenty-six legions of demons under his command. He tells things of the past, present and future with true answers; he can also turn all metals into gold, give dignities to men and confirm them. He speaks with a clear and subtle voice, and as recounted in Aleister Crowley's Illustrated Goetia, he is a liar when not answering questions. To speak with him the conjurer must wear a silver ring and put it before his face in the same form as it is needed in Beleth's case and demons do before Amaymon. He is depicted as a soldier wearing red clothes, a golden crown, and riding a red horse. Books on the subject tell that he is called according to whom invokes him, being called Berith by the Jews (see below). According to some demonologists from the 16th century, his power is stronger in June, meanwhile to Sebastien Michaelis he suggests murder and blasphemy and his adversary is St. Barnabas. His name was surely taken from Baal Berith (god), a form of Baal worshiped in Berith (Beirut), Phoenicia. In Alchemy Berith was the element with which all metals could be transmuted into gold.[citation needed] "Berith" is the Hebrew word for covenant, it was originated from the Akkadian (Babylonian) word "Biritu" which means "to fetter" or "to bond".

I. "Duke Berith Takes On Two Forms To Make It Seem Like He Is Of A Greater Importance Than Others By Being Both Lord And God. He Is Able To Lord People -- Especially Over Another Person -- And Causes Them To Feel Superior To Others So That They Will Be More Loyal."

II. "He Gives Them A Contract That Is Allegedly A Covenant (But Is Generally Broken Immediately After Servitude Is Sworn To He And The Devil He Works For) So That The Army Will Be More Willing To Sell Their Souls And Their Bodies. Their Minds Remain Intact So That They Can Mentally Give Themselves Up."

III. "One Of The Main Reasons Berith Gives You A Contract Looking Like A Covenant Is So That You Can Be Used As A Sacrifice For He And Any Other Greater Person Than Himself At Any Given Time For Any Given Reason -- Which You Believe Is Necessary To Follow Because You Have Given Your Word By The Contract, Which None Above You Even Care About Nor Follow Except Before Your Face."

IV. "Secretly, Berith -- Being Closer To The Top -- Wishes To Lord Himself God Over His Own Lord, Bael, However He Also Knows That Not Serving For The Period Of Time Necessary Will Make His Mutiny All Too Obvious And Also Prove Him Untrustworthy Before All Of His Units That He Just Signs Over To His Covenant Contract."

Note: Baal Berith, Who Takes On Two Forms As Lord And God Of The Covenant, Is Just A Contract To The Demons Pretending To Be Angels And Godly, To See If You Are Able To Comprehend As Well As See Baal As The Demon Lord Of The Devil System. He Swears Himself In And Continues To Maintain The Light As Well As Keeps Track Of Those In The Covenant Of Light In Order To Eventually One Day Lord Himself Over All Of Them As God.

2 Samuel 15:12 "While Absalom Was Offering Sacrifices, He Also Sent For Ahithophel The Gilonite, David's Counselor, To Come From Giloh, His Hometown. And So The Conspiracy Gained Strength, And Absalom's Following Kept On Increasing."

XXIX. "Those That Are Sworn Into The Secret Society Of The System -- Of What We Know As 'The Illuminati' -- Are Treated As 'Royalty' Because Of What They Do And How They Are Cared For Whilst Within The Underground Or Hidden Network That Is Kept Secret From The Public And Remains Covered From The Ignorant, As We Know It Today. They Are Known As 'Princes' Or 'Princesses' Because Of Who Takes Them In And What They Are Meant To Do, As Well As Because Of Their Etiquette And Behavior (Since Most Of Them Are Severe Sinners Or Criminals That Were Simply Taken Up And Taken In By The Higher Up Officials And Authorities Of The System). These People Are Greeted By One Known As 'The Prince' -- Who Is 'The Prince Of This World' -- And Taught How To Act Within The Secret Society. They Are Given Riches And Told How To Act And What To Do In Order For Them To Remain Subservient And No Longer Think For Themselves, Which Makes Them Lazy, Stupid And Generally Completely Controlled By The One Who Gives Them This 'Peace' Or 'Rest', Yet This Is Only To Ensure That They Are Permanently Stunted And Left Weak For The Rest Of Their Days. They Form A Wall Or Barrier That Keeps The Ignorant From Being Able To See Or Understand What Is Beyond Them, And They Are Considered 'Celebrities' From That Point On For The Sake Of The Public And The Sake Of The Hidden Superiors That Govern Them. They Also Control What Happens To The Masses, The Media And The Riches Of The Middle And Lower Classes Of The World, Which Is Known As 'The Flood Of Astaroth'. They, Themselves, Also Serve As 'Locusts' That Devour Everything That Comes Into The Light, Including The People, Themselves, Aspiring To Be Like Them. Their Head Official And Example -- The Prince Of This World -- Works With Two Others; The Light Of The World & The Lord Of The Flies. Together, The Prince, The Light And The Lord Of The Flies Keep Control Through Discord, Ignorance, Misinformation And False Light. This Sustains The General Society And Economy From The Middle-Down With An Eternal Barrier Of Light That Are The Princes And Princesses. At Any Given Time They Are Released Into The World To Sow Discord, Misinformation Or False Light Through The Media, With Money Or Through Secret Networks And Underground Communication In Order For Them To Remain Where They Are And Not Expose How They Got There As Well As To Keep Those Who Brought Them There Hidden, Leaving The Masses Ignorant To Higher Powers And False Lights, As Well As Their Own Ignorance Of The Matters." - Glimmer

Astaroth (also Ashtaroth, Astarot and Asteroth) is referred to in The Lesser Key of Solomon as a very powerful demon. In art, in the Dictionnaire Infernal, Astaroth is depicted as a nude man with feathered wings, wearing a crown, holding a serpent in one hand, and riding a beast with dragon-like wings and a serpent-like tail. According to Sebastien Michaelis he is a demon of the First Hierarchy, who seduces by means of laziness, vanity, and rationalized philosophies.

Astaroth's seal (according to The Lesser Key of Solomon).
His adversary is St. Bartholomew, who can protect against him for he has resisted Astaroth's temptations. To others, he teaches mathematical sciences and handicrafts, can make men invisible and lead them to hidden treasures, and answers every question formulated to him. He was also said to give to mortal beings the power over serpents. His name is possibly taken from the goddess Asherah or Astarte.

I. "Astaroth Serves As A Son-like Position In The Demon Hierarchy."

II. "Astaroth's Name -- Which Comes From Ashtoreth -- Is A Mark Of Proof That He Is The Son Of A Mother, And Is Considered To Be A Princedom Because Of His Position Under The Demonhood Of The System, Itself That Both Sustains Him And That He, Too, Sustains."

III. "Astaroth Sits Upon An Infernal Dragon Because The Light That He Is Bearing Upward To The King Is Gnarled And Ugly, Yet Is Still Serving Its Purpose Somehow -- Which Is Also What The Serpent In His Hand Represents, As Well As The Wings That Carry He And His Crown Over His Head As A Prince."

IV. "As A Symbol For Men, Astaroth Illustrates A Type Of Emasculate Behavior Which Places Astaroth Under The Dominion Of A Mother Or Underneath A Woman That Is Providing Something And Supporting Him (Even Habitually) And Is Also Something That Should End Up Being Understood From A Masculine Perspective In Order To Further Promote Is To An Evolution Instead Of Continue It Down A Degeneration Further Into Princedom And Not Into Kingdom."

2 Samuel 16:21-22 "Ahithophel Answered, 'Sleep With Your Father's Concubines Whom He Left To Take Care Of The Palace. Then All Israel Will Hear That You Have Made Yourself Obnoxious To Your Father, And The Hands Of Everyone With You Will Be More Resolute.' So They Pitched A Tent For Absalom On The Roof, And He Slept With His Father's Concubines In The Sight Of All Israel."

XXX. "When All Of The 'Children Of The System' -- The 'Princes' And 'Princesses' -- Are Set Up, Dressed Up In Gold And Silver, Given Riches, Fame, Fortune, Prestige And Kept Undercover, Linked Up In Secret And Made To Mingle Amongst Each Other Without Interaction With The Lower Layers Plus Have Established A Large And Thick Barrier Of Themselves Which Prevents The Commonfolk From Being Able To See Past Them, A New Official Arises In Order To Work With Their 'Leader', 'The Prince Of Princes'. This New Leader Causes Any Of Them Who Have Been Hated Or Who Have Gotten Into Altercations, Or Even Made Themselves Look Bad To Make Amends In The Light And To Sway The Hearts Of Those Who Hate And Love Them Alike Through Spiritism Via The Light And The Media Or Through Networking. They May Falsify, Fabricate Or Completely Make Up Information (Hence The 'Lord Of The Flies' Working With The 'Prince Of Princes') In Order To Save The Faces Of Those Who Are Dressed In Gold And Silver And Also To Keep Whatever 'Bad Image' Or 'Negative Information' From Gracing Them At All. This Sort Of 'Spiritism' Is Known As The Power Of A 'Great Sea Monster', Since The Ignorant Masses Are Considered Both 'The Sea' And Its 'Fish'. Therefore, When The Waters Are Troubled, This Official Ensures That They Are Kept Calm For The Sake Of The Upcoming Princes And Princesses To Maintain Their Fame, Fortune And Image In The Light. They Are Also Taught To Communicate In The Same Fashion As Anyone Else, Be It In A Different Language Or Through Things Like Rhetoric, Sarcasm, Song, Image Or Any Other Form Of 'Language' Or 'Communication' That Others May Interact With In Order To Ensure That The Full Breadth Of The Network Is Covered When Saving The Faces Of Those In Gold And Silver." - Facade

In demonology, Forneus is a Great Marquis of Hell, and has twenty-nine legions of demons under his rule. He teaches Rhetoric and languages, gives men a good name, and makes them be loved by their friends and foes.

He is depicted as a great sea monster. He causes men to have a good name and to have the knowledge and understanding of tongues. He makes one beloved by his foes as well as of his friends. He is partly of the Order of Thrones, and partly of that of Angels. His name seems to come from "fornus" (oven). He can take many different forms but mainly prefers his human form.

I. "Forneus Gives Good Names To Men So That They Do Not Feel Bad About Being Enslaved Or In Servitude Under Someone Else, Including He, Himself. This Is A Typical Tactic Among The Ranks Of The Evil Ones To Keep Others From Desiring Higher Positions."

II. "Forneus Also Keeps People From Disputing Against Each Other So That It Is Easier To Control Them And Keep Them Calm Through Peace."

III. "Forneus Also Teaches People To Understand Different Types Of Communication So That They Can Understand When Someone Is Deceiving Them, Lying To Them, Hiding From Them Or Anything That Would Cause Another To Stop Communicating Properly."

IV. "Forneus Is A Great Sea Monster Because He Controls A Large Portion Of People Through Their Own Envies Of Each Other When There Is Peace Made And Names Are Given, As Well As When They Begin To Understand Different Forms Of Communication And That People Were Saying Bad Things About Others Before They Knew How To Understand The Communication. This Incites War Between Them Without Forneus Being Seen As The One Doing So, And Also Keeps Peace By Having Everyone Know What Anyone Is Speaking Of At All Given Times (To Catch The Badmouthers; The Envious)."

2 Samuel 17:27-29 "When David Came To Mahanaim, Shabi Son Of Nahash From Rabbah Of The Ammonites, And Makir Son Of Ammiel From Lo Debar, And Barzillai The Gileadite From Rogelim Brought Bedding And Bowls And Articles Of Pottery. They Also Brought Wheat And Barley, Flour And Roasted Grain, Beans And Lentils, Honey And Curds, Sheep, And Cheese From Cows' Milk For David And His People To Eat. For They Said, 'The People Have Become Exhausted And Hungry And Thirsty In The Wilderness.'"

XXXI. "Once All Of Those Who Are Of The System's Lowest Layer Of Glamoured Visibility Are Established -- The 'Princes' And 'Princesses' -- And Their Faces, Names, Lives And Images Are Saved From Their Sinful Lives Of Doing Evil And Rebelling, They Are Put To Work By A Superior Official In The World So That The Previous Items And Identities That They Had Lost Can Be Recovered In Memory, Spirit Or Material Via Friends, Family, Love, Self-Identification And Experience. During This Time, Those Things Are Given To Them As 'Rewards' For Being Obedient Within The System And To Their 'Superiors' Or 'Handlers'. They Are Taught How To Exist Within The Limitations And Boundaries Of The System And Whomever Is Governing It, As Well As Of Etiquette, The Logic Of The System And The Ruler Of The System, And General Ethics Of Dealing With Each Other, Superiors And Inferiors Of The System In Order To Keep It Functional -- Whether Or Not The Logic, Ethics And Etiquette Are Truly Proper. They Practice This On Stage In The Light And Before Others Constantly, Even Unto Their Superiors And Use Inferiors As Test Subjects For Their Own Practice (Such As With Concerts, Shows, Presentations And The Like). Because They Are Rewarded Slowly And Gradually Using What They Lost As The Bait Or Bribe To Keep Them Under Contract, They Are -ALLOWED- To Live For A Very Long Time As Long As They Are Obedient Until They Receive Everything They Have Lost -- Which Is Put Up For Ransom As A Threat If They Do Not Obey. They Are Taught Of Nature And The Nature Of The World As Well As Materials And Material Possessions That They Know How To Handle Them And How To Flaunt Them, As Well As How To Cause And Make Others Desire Said Material Possessions -- All Of Which Are Of The Earth; Jewels, Minerals, Herbs (Such As Marijuana), Incense, Mushrooms And Other Natural Products Of The Earth, Which They Both Work For And Gather As They Exist On The Earth. All Of This Is -Only- Considered The 'Outer' Layer, And Their 'Superior Handler' Is The One Who Governs The 'Outer Layer' In Its Entirety Along With The 'Prince Of Princes.'" - Image

In demonology, Foras (alternatively Forcas or Forrasis) is a powerful President of Hell, being obeyed by twenty-nine legions of demons. He teaches logic and ethics in all their branches, the virtues of all herbs and precious stones, can make a man witty, eloquent, invisible (invincible according to some authors), and live long, and can discover treasures and recover lost things.

He is depicted as a strong man.

The Thirty-first Spirit is Foras. He is a Mighty President, and appeareth in the Form of a Strong Man in Human Shape. He can give the understanding to Men how they may know the Virtues of all Herbs and Precious Stones. He teacheth the Arts of Logic and Ethics in all their parts. If desired he maketh men invisible, and to live long, and to be eloquent. He can discover Treasures and recover things Lost. He ruleth over 29 Legions of Spirits, and his Seal is this, which wear thou, etc.

I. "Forcas Is Actually A President In Hell, And Not Just A Knight. That, Or After The Battle With Amy, Becomes A President That Is Known As 'Foras' Instead Of 'Forcas.'"

II. "After The Defeat Of Amy, Forcas Takes Amy's Legions That Remain And Becomes The Leader Of 29 Legions Rather Than Only 20 Legions."

III. "After Forcas -- Who Is The Pitchfork -- Becomes Foras, Who Is A President, He Begins To Teach About The Earth, Because That Is All He Knows."

IV. "Foras, As A President, Becomes Redundant Because There Is Already A President That Is Known To Teach The Exact Same Things As He, And Thus Between Them, Another War Is Waged To See Which Obsolete One Is Killed And Hurled Out Of The System For Being Useless."

2 Samuel 19:5-7 "Then Joab Went Into The House To The King And Said, 'Today You Have Humiliated All Your Men, Who Have Just Saved Your Life And The Lives Of Your Sons And Daughters And The Lives Of Your Wives And Concubines. You Love Those Who Hate You And Hate Those Who Love You. You Have Made It Clear Today That The Commanders And Their Men Mean Nothing To You. I See That You Would Be Pleased If Absalom Were Alive Today And All Of Us Were Dead. Now Go Out And Encourage Your Men. I Swear By The Lord That If You Don't Go Out, Not A Man Will Be Left With You By Nightfall. This Will Be Worse For You Than All The Calamities That Have Come On You From Your Youth Till Now."

XXXII. "After All Of The 'Children' Of The System Have Been Taught Properly And Their Lives Are Being Dangled On Strings Plus Given Back To Them In Pieces As Ransoms And Rewards, They Are Taken To One Of The Highest Authorities That Rules Over Many Of The Higher And Lesser Authorities So That They Understand That There Is A Greater Power Than They And Than Their Handler In The Light So That They Do Not Rebel Against The System, Since Many Of Them Are Still Rebels At Heart And Conspirators In Their Minds Seeking To Secretly Overthrow The Powers That Be After Learning The Interior Of The System And Dealing With The Masses As A Majority. This Is So That They Understand That There Are Even Greater Secret Layers Beyond What They Are And Have Been Exposed To So That They Remain Constantly In Fear, Obedient And Under Control And Sometimes So That They Do Not Bond Together To Overthrow Anyone. This Superior -- Who Is Considered A Great King -- Is Always Tearing Them Down, Destroying Their Work And Causing Chaos Or Disturbing Them With Violent Anger So That He May Seem Dominant And Hide His Own Weakness Or Shame. He Lords Power Over Them So That They Will Respect And Fear Him, Yet Also So That They Will Aspire To Be Like Him. He Puts Them Through Rigorous Trials So That He May Test Them And See Which Of Them Will Ascend, But Does Not Want Anyone To Surpass Nor Usurp Him. Those That Get Too Far Are Led From The Group And Destroyed Secretly As They Rise Up The Ladder, Sabotaged Behind The Scenes And Made Example Of For The Princes And Princesses Whilst The One That Is To Take His Place Is Doted On And Made The Envy Of Others So That Others Will Continue To Have Drive Enough To Even Desire To Ascend The Ranks At All To Get Close To His Place. This Is To Ensure That He Keeps Control And Power Over -SOMETHING- At All So That He Can -FEEL- Powerful, For If He Has No One To Lord Himself Over, He Is Weak. He Teaches Them To Be Subservient And To Sacrifice Whatever Good Things They Have To Him And To Love What Is Wicked, Perverse Or Generally Immoral Whilst Telling Them That It Is Good Only So That They Will Not Understand What His Weakness, Perversion And Lusts Are. He Then Also Lusts To Eliminate Whatever Makes Them Powerful, Secure Or Stable So That He Can Be The Sole Source Of Their Stability And Power, And The System That He Is So Highly Esteemed In Can Be Their Sanctuary, And He Can Be Lord Over Them. After Making His Appearance And Showing Them That They Are Not The Highest Nor The Most Powerful, He Sends Someone Lesser Than He And Deliver Them Back To Their Handlers So That They Can Train To Be Like Him Or Someone Below Him, Yet Greater Than They." - Intimidation

Asmodai (also Ashmodai, Asmodeus, Asmody, Asmoday) appears as the king 'Asmoday' in the Ars Goetia, where he is said to have a seal in gold and is listed as number thirty-two according to respective rank.[4] He "is strong, powerful and appears with three heads; the first is like a bull, the second like a man, and the third like a ram; the tail of a serpent, and from his mouth issue flames of fire."[4] Also, he sits upon an infernal dragon, holds a lance with a banner and, amongst the Legions of Amaymon, Asmoday governs seventy two legions of inferior spirits.

For other uses, see Asmodeus (disambiguation).

Asmodeus as depicted in Collin de Plancy's Dictionnaire Infernal.

The figure of Asmodeus in Rennes-le-Château.
Asmodeus (/ˌæzməˈdiːəs/; Greek: Ασμοδαίος, Asmodaios) or Ashmedai (/ˈæʃmɪˌdaɪ/; Hebrew: אַשְמְדּאָי‎, ʾAšmədʾāy; see below for other variations) is a king of demons[1] mostly known from the deuterocanonical Book of Tobit, in which he is the primary antagonist.[2] The demon is also mentioned in some Talmudic legends; for instance, in the story of the construction of the Temple of Solomon. He was supposed by some Renaissance Christians to be the King of the Nine Hells. Asmodeus also is referred to as one of the seven princes of Hell. In Binsfeld's classification of demons, each one of these princes represents one of the seven deadly sins (Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride). Asmodeus is the demon of lust and is therefore responsible for twisting people's sexual desires, as seen in the book of Tobias especially. He is also said to be here on Earth after millions of years in hell. In Jewish and Islamic lore he is the king of the earthly spirits (Shedim/Jinn).[3][4]

It is said in Asmodeus; Or, The Devil on Two Sticks that people who fall to Asmodeus' ways will be sentenced to an eternity in the second level of hell.

The name Asmodai is believed to derive from Avestan language *aēšma-daēva, where aēšma means "wrath", and daēva signifies "demon" or "divine being". While the daēva Aēšma is thus Zoroastrianism's demon of wrath and is also well attested as such, the compound aēšma-daēva is not attested in scripture. It is nonetheless likely that such a form did exist, and that the Book of Tobit's "Asmodaios" (Ἀσμοδαῖος) and the Talmud's "Ashmedai" (אשמדאי) reflect it.[6] In the Zoroastrian and Middle Persian demonology, did exist the conjuncted form khashm-dev, where the word dev was the same of daeva.[7]

The spellings Asmodai,[8][9] Asmodee,[10][11] Osmodeus,[12][13] and Osmodai[14][15] have also been used. The name is alternatively spelled in the bastardized forms (based on the basic consonants אשמדאי, ʾŠMDʾY) Hashmedai (חַשְמְדּאָי, Hašmədʾāy; also Hashmodai, Hasmodai, Chashmodai, Chasmodai),[16][17][18][19] Hammadai (חַמַּדּאָי, Hammadʾāy; also Chammadai),[20][21] Shamdon (שַׁמְדּוֹן, Šamdōn),[22] and Sidonai (שִׁדֹנאָי, Šidonʾāy).[21] Some traditions have subsequently identified Shamdon as the father of Asmodeus.[22]

The Jewish Encyclopedia of 1906 rejects the otherwise accepted etymological relation between the Persian "Æshma-dæva" and Judaism's "Ashmodai" claiming that the particle "-dæva" could not have become "-dai" and that Æshma-dæva as such—a compound name—never appears in Persian sacred texts. Still, the encyclopedia proposes that the "Asmodeus" from the Apocrypha and the Testament of Solomon are not only related somewhat to Aeshma but have similar behaviour, appearance and roles,[23] to conclude in another article under the entry "Aeshma", in the paragraph "Influence of Persian Beliefs on Judaism"[24] that Persian Zoroastrian beliefs could have heavily influenced Judaism's theology on the long term, bearing in mind that in some texts there are crucial conceptual differences while in others there seems to be a great deal of similarity, proposing a pattern of influence over folk beliefs that would extend further to the mythology itself in general.

In The Bible
The full name "Ashmedai" is not found, but in 2 Kings 17:30, a certain Ashima appears as the false god for whom the Syrian Hamathites made an idol. Not only does this name better resemble that of the Persian daeva Aeshma, but the name (אֲשִׁימָא) also greatly resembles the name Ashmedai (אַשְמְדּאָי) in Hebrew. Likewise, the Bible is clear in that at least some heathen gods are not just idols, but representations of demons in Deut 32:17 and Psa 106:37.

In the Book of Tobit
The Asmodeus of the Book of Tobit is hostile to Sarah, Raguel's daughter, (Tobit 6:13); and slays seven successive husbands on their wedding nights, impeding the sexual consummation of the marriages. He is described as 'the worst of demons'. When the young Tobias is about to marry her, Asmodeus proposes the same fate for him, but Tobias is enabled, through the counsels of his attendant angel Raphael, to render him innocuous. By placing a fish's heart and liver on red-hot cinders, Tobias produces a smoky vapor that causes the demon to flee to Egypt, where Raphael binds him (Tobit 8:2-3). According to some translations Asmodeus is strangled.

Perhaps Asmodeus punishes the suitors for their carnal desire, since Tobias prays to be free from such desire and is kept safe. Asmodeus is also described as an evil spirit in general: 'Ασμοδαίος τὸ πονηρὸν δαιμόνιον or τõ δαιμόνιον πονηρόν, and πνεῦμα ἀκάθαρτον (Tobit 3:8; Tobit 3:17; Tobit 6:13; Tobit 8:3).

In the Kabbalah
According to the Kabbalah and the school of Rashba, Asmodeus is a cambion born as the result of a union between Agrat Bat Mahlat, a succubus, and King David.[25]

In the Talmud
The figure of Ashmedai in the Talmud is less malign in character than the Asmodeus of Tobit. In the former, he appears repeatedly in the light of a good-natured and humorous fellow. But besides that, there is one feature in which he parallels Asmodeus, inasmuch as his desires turn upon Solomon's wives and Bath-sheba.

Another Talmudic legend has King Solomon tricking Asmodai into collaborating in the construction of the Temple of Jerusalem[4] (see: The Story of King Solomon and Ashmedai).

Another legend depicts Asmodai throwing king Solomon over 400 leagues away from the capital by putting one wing on the ground and the other stretched skyward. He then changed places for some years with King Solomon. When King Solomon returned, Asmodai fled from his wrath.[26] Similar legends can be found in islamic folklore. There Asmodeus is called Sakhr (Arabic: صخر‎ the Rock or the Stony One), because in islamic lore, Solomon banished him into a rock, after he takes his kingdom back from him. There he counts as the king of the jinn.[27]

Another passage describes him as marrying Lilith, who became his queen.[28]

He has also been recorded as the off-spring of the union between Adam and the angel of prostitution, Naamah, conceived while Adam was married to Lilith.[citation needed]

In the Testament of Solomon
In the Testament of Solomon, a 1st–3rd century text, the king invokes Asmodeus to aid in the construction of the Temple. The demon appears and predicts Solomon's kingdom will one day be divided (Testament of Solomon, verse 21–25).[29] When Solomon interrogates Asmodeus further, the king learns that Asmodeus is thwarted by the angel Raphael, as well as by sheatfish found in the rivers of Assyria. He also admits to hating water and birds because both remind him of God.

In the Malleus Maleficarum
In the Malleus Maleficarum (1486), Asmodeus was considered the demon of lust.[30] Sebastien Michaelis said that his adversary is St. John. Some demonologists of the 16th century assigned a month to a demon and considered November to be the month in which Asmodai's power was strongest. Other demonologists asserted that his zodiacal sign was Aquarius but only between the dates of January 30 and February 8.

He has 72 legions of demons under his command. He is one of the Kings of Hell under Lucifer the emperor. He incites gambling, and is the overseer of all the gambling houses in the court of Hell. Some Catholic theologians compared him with Abaddon. Yet other authors considered Asmodeus a prince of revenge.

In the Dictionnaire Infernal
In the Dictionnaire Infernal by Collin de Plancy, Asmodeus is depicted with the breast of a man, a cock leg, serpent tail, three heads (one of a man spitting fire, one of a sheep, and one of a bull), riding a lion with dragon wings and neck, all of these animals being associated with either lascivity, lust or revenge.[citation needed] The Archbishop of Paris approved his portrait.[31]

In the Lesser Key of Solomon
Asmodai appears as the king 'Asmoday' in the Ars Goetia, where he is said to have a seal in gold and is listed as number thirty-two according to respective rank.[32]

He "is strong, powerful and appears with three heads; the first is like a bull, the second like a man, and the third like a ram; the tail of a serpent, and from his mouth issue flames of fire."[33] Also, he sits upon an infernal dragon, holds a lance with a banner and, amongst the Legions of Amaymon, Asmoday governs seventy two legions of inferior spirits.[32]

In The Magus
Asmodeus is referred to in Book Two, Chapter Eight of The Magus (1801) by Francis Barrett.

Asmodeus was named as an angel of the Order of Thrones by Gregory the Great.[35]

Asmodeus was cited by the nuns of Loudun in the Loudun possessions of 1634.[36]

The story of Asmodeus and Solomon has a reappearance in Arabian and Islamic lore, however Asmodeus is commonly named Sakhr (rock) probably a reference to his fate, because according to Islamic lore, after Solomon defeated Asmodeus, he imprisioned him inside a box of rock, chained with iron, and throw it into the sea.[37] Tabari linked Asmodeus to Surah 37:106 of the Quran in his work Annals of al-Tabari, therefore Solomon was replaced by Asmodeus over forty days.[38]

Asmodeus' reputation as the personification of lust continued into later writings, as he was known as the "Prince of Lechery" in the 16th century romance Friar Rush.[39] The French Benedictine Augustin Calmet equated his name with fine dress.[39] The 16th century Dutch demonologist Johann Weyer described him as the banker at the baccarat table in hell, and overseer of earthly gambling houses.[40]

In 1641, the Spanish playwright and novelist Luis Velez de Guevara published the satirical novel El diablo cojuelo, where Asmodeus is represented as a mischievous demon endowed with a playful and satirical genius. The plot presents a rascal student that hides in an astrologer's mansard. He frees a devil from a bottle. As an acknowledgement the devil shows him the apartments of Madrid and the tricks, miseries and mischiefs of their inhabitants.[41][42] The French novelist Alain-René Lesage adapted the Spanish source in his 1707 novel le Diable boiteux,[39] where he likened him to Cupid. In the book, he is rescued from an enchanted glass bottle by a Spanish student Don Cleophas Leandro Zambullo. Grateful, he joins with the young man on a series of adventures before being recaptured. Asmodeus is portrayed in a sympathetic light as good-natured, and a canny satirist and critic of human society.[39] In another episode Asmodeus takes Don Cleophas for a night flight, and removes the roofs from the houses of a village to show him the secrets of what passes in private lives. Following Lesage's work, he was depicted in a number of novels and periodicals, mainly in France but also London and New York.[43]

Asmodeus was widely depicted as having a handsome visage, good manners and an engaging nature; however, he was portrayed as walking with a limp and one leg was either clawed or that of a rooster. He walks aided by two walking sticks in Lesage's work, and this gave rise to the English title The Devil on Two Sticks[31] (also later translated The Limping Devil and The Lame Devil). Lesage attributes his lameness to falling from the sky after fighting with another devil.[44]

On 18 February 1865, author Evert A. Duyckinck sent President Abraham Lincoln a letter, apparently mailed from Quincy. Duyckinck signed the letter “Asmodeus”, with his initials below his pseudonym. His letter enclosed a newspaper clipping about an inappropriate joke allegedly told by Lincoln at the Hampton Roads Peace Conference. The purpose of Duyckinck’s letter was to advise Lincoln of “an important omission” about the history of the conference. He advised that the newspaper clipping be added to the “Archives of the Nation”.[45]

Asmodeus is referred to and briefly described in the short story "The Mirror", by Isaac Bashevis Singer.

Asmodeus is a recurring antagonist in season thirteen of The CW series Supernatural. As being created by Lucifer himself, Asmodeus was originally a Prince of Hell alongside his siblings Azazel, Dagon, and Ramiel. Upon the death of Crowley, Asmodeus succeeds him as the King of Hell. He is primarily portrayed by Jeffrey Vincent Parise.

Asmodeus appears as a devil in Alan Moore's novel Jerusalem.

I. "Asmodeus Is The Scapegoat For The King Of The World, And Considers Himself To Be The King Of The World, But Is The Rival Of The True King Of The World -- Solomon."

II. "Asmodeus Is Ruler Over Other Kings Because The Other Kings Were Lesser Than He And Did Not Reach Their Full Potential Due To Their Lust For The Spotlight, And So Another Greater King Came Up Behind The First Kings And Took The Crowns."

III. "Other Kings In The Image Of The Greater Kings Were Created In The Image Of The First Greater King, Asmodeus, And Thus It Became A Defect And A Demon To Be A Greater King Than Another King As Well As To Use Another Person Or Another King And Their Kingdom To Establish Yourself Above Them High Up Over Them -- Relating To Space And The Power Over The Earth Because Of The Leverage With The Universe And Its Karmic Powers."

IV. "Asmodeus Is Seen As The Adversary Of Kings And Their Kingdoms Or Kingships Because He Is Seeking The Highest Honor, Glory And Power Despite His Defects And Also Rivals The One True King For Solitary Control Over The Heavens And The Earth By Being An Adversary On Purpose And Teaching Others To Be An Adversary Completely Purposefully In Order To Acquire Crowns, Kings And Kingdoms Instead Of Earning Them -- Which Leads Back Into His Appearance And Function As A King."

Note: "Asmodeus Is Seeking To Boost Himself Up Greater Than Everyone And Everything Despite Having Defects, Errors And Malfunctions That Backfire On Him And Expose His Weaknesses And Vulnerabilities Further, Including In His Image -- Which Relates Closely To Balaam, The King That Precedes Him, And The Purpose Of Being A Defective And Fallen Cherub (Of Which This Kingship Of Asmodeus Would Represent)." - Satan (Samael)

XXXIII. "Those Who Are Of The System That Are Sent Away By Their Higher Superior Back To Their Lower Superiors Are Met By One Of The Lower Superiors That Knows What The Masses Loves And What Is Loved By The Earth At The Time, Or What Is Necessary To Be Loved By The Earth In Order To Support And Sustain The System. Therefore, This Official -- Who Is Greater Than The Handlers, And Instructs The Handlers -- Informs All Of Who To Love, What To Love And What To Make Others Love Out In The Masses And Within The System So That Everyone Will Buy Certain Products, Follow Or Idolize Certain People And Generally Seek Out The Things That They Are Told. This Is Generally Done Through Commercialism, Import And Export As Well As Publicized Or Popularized By The Media And Celebrities, Which Makes For Production And Mass Production Within The System. After That, There Are Those Both In The System And In The Masses That Actually -Embody- What Others Love And What They Are Told To Love In Order To Further Glorify Such Product Or People And Ideas In Order For Them To Perpetuate It Continually For As Long As The Trends Last And Sometimes Even Through Generations. Afterward, It Is Exported Throughout The Nations And Popularized In Other Countries Among Other Idols That Are Similar To Those Of The System In The Same Or Similar Fashions." - Charm

(PRINCE\PRESIDENT) Gaap (also Goap, Tap) is a mighty Prince and Great President of Hell, commanding sixty-six legions of demons. He is, according to The Lesser Key of Solomon, the king and prince of the southern region of Hell and Earth, and according to the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum (False Monarchy of the Demons) the king of the western region and as mighty as Beleth, but for both he is the guide of the four kings (the others being Ziminiar, Corson and Amaymon, although some translations of The Lesser Key of Solomon consider Belial, Beleth, Asmodai and Gaap, not giving detail on the cardinal point they rule). He is said to be better conjured to appear when the Sun is in a southern zodiacal sign. Gaap specifically controls the element of water and reigns over the Water Elementals or the 'water demons'. Gaap teaches Philosophy and all liberal sciences, can cause love or hate and make men insensible and invisible, deliver familiars out of the custody of other magicians, teaches how to consecrate those things that belong to the dominion of Amaymon his king (there is a contradiction here, see above), gives true answers concerning past, present and future, and can carry and re-carry men and things speedily from one nation to another at the conjurer's will. According to a few authors he can make men ignorant. According to Pseudomonarchia Daemonum certain necromancers honour him with sacrifices and burning offerings. He is depicted in human shape.

Gaap (also Tap, Coap, Taob, Goap) is a goetic demon described in the Lesser Key of Solomon,[1] the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum,[2] the Dictionnaire Infernal,[3] and the Munich Manual of Demonic Magic,[4][5][6] as a Prince in human form who incites love. The Munich Manual also says that Taob also provides medical care for women, transforms them to make it easier to get to a lover, renders them infertile, and rules twenty-five legions of spirits. The sources besides the Munich Manual also describe Gaap as a President, giving him the powers to teach philosophy and liberal arts, make others invisible, steal familiars from other magicians, make men stupid, and carry men between kingdoms; in addition to ruling sixty-six legions of demons. Johann Weyer also connects Gaap to necromancers, and states that he was first called upon by Noah's son Ham, along with Beleth. He was of the order of potestates.

Gaap (or Goap) is also one of the four cardinal spirits, of the south in the Lesser Key of Solomon, the west in the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum.

In the Livre des Esperitz,[7] Gaap (as Caap) is still a Prince, but appears as a knight, brings gold and silver anywhere, and rules twenty legions of spirits.

Practicing occultist Carroll "Poke" Runyon treats Gaap and Coap as different entities,[8] although they were historically the same figure.[7]

According to Thomas Rudd, Gaap is opposed by the Shemhamphorasch angel Ieuiah.

I. "Gaap Is An Introduction Into A Princedom." - President

II. "Gaap Sustains The Other Roles Or Positions Of The Princedom." - Kingship

III. "Gaap Is What Allows Princes To Have Authority As A World Power Under The Dominion Of Their Kingship." - Kingdom

IV. "Gaap Is What A Prince Must Model Himself After In Order To Become A King From His Princedom." - Astaroth

Note: "Astaroth." - Knight (Prince)

Secret: "Lord Cthulhu." - Manual Overwrite (Astaroth)

2 Samuel 20:1 "Now A Troublemaker Named Sheba Son Of Bikri, A Benjamite, Happened To Be There. He Sounded The Trumpet And Shouted, 'We Have No Share In David, No Part In Jesse's Son! Every Man To His Tent, Israel!'"

XXXIV. Some Are Caused To Love Some And Others Are Caused To Love Others Through Spiritism And General Influence Via Messengers And Media Through Public Announcements And Displays. Also, This Official Tells The Business Of Others, Be It Good Or Bad, And Has Only This Purpose In Order To Keep Those Who Are Out In The Light And Those In The Masses From Feeling Too Superior Through Their Collectives And Congregations (Generally Out Of Love Or Reverence). He Tells Their Secrets, Their Business, Personal Matters And Generally Functions As The 'Paparazzi' So That The Princes, Princesses And Anyone Who Is Considered 'Celebrity', 'Idol' Or 'Star' Can Be Kept Subdued. If They Do Things That Are Against The System In Secret, It Is Brought To The Public Attention And Their Reputation Is Destroyed. Likewise, This Official Is Able To Build The Reputation Of Others, Even Though His Main Objective Is To Destroy Reputations Of Those Who Tarnish It Or Disobey In The Background." - Exposure

In demonology, Furfur (other spelling: Furtur, Ferthur) is a powerful Great Earl of Hell, being the ruler of twenty-nine legions of demons. He is a liar unless compelled to enter a magic triangle where he gives true answers to every question, speaking with a rough voice. Furfur causes love between a man and a woman, creates storms, tempests, thunder, lightning, and blasts, and teaches on secret and divine things.

He is depicted as a hart or winged hart, and also as an angel. To some authors he changes from hart into angel when compelled to enter the magic triangle.

'Furfur' or 'furfures' in Latin means "bran". However it seems more likely that the name is a corruption of 'furcifer' the Latin word for scoundrel.

Slightly less likely considering the context, but still possible, is that the name originated from "fur", Latin for "thief".

I. "During The Collapse Of The Entire Level Belonging To The Counts All By Their Own Doing, The One Count That Survives, Who Was Not Involved In Their Doings -- Named 'Furfur' -- Watches Over They And The Destruction Awaiting A Time To Intervene And Take Possession Of Whatever Is Left If Possible."

II. "Being A Liar, Furfur Will Deceive And Deter Anyone That Should Attempt To Get Any Closer, Unless Gridlocked To A Point Where It Cannot Do So Because Of The Hazard Or Threat Of The Dangerous Situation Of Vulnerability That Comes From The Destruction Of The Counts And This Part Of The System."

III. "By This Time, The Buer That Is A Messenger Is Ready To Speak On The Events That Have Occurred To A Higher Power, And Furfur Ends Up Killing The Buer To Prevent The Truth Getting Out To The Higher Demons In Rank."

IV. "With The Buer No Longer Serving As A Messenger, The Furfur Can Ascend To The Higher Ranks And Lie To The Higher Ups About What Is Going On In Order To Save Its Life, Extend Its Life, Keep Others From Getting Any Further, Gaining Whatever Possessions May Remain And Also Being Promoted To A Higher Position."

2 Samuel 20:11 "One Of Joab's Men Stood Beside Amasa And Said, 'Whoever Favors Joab, And Whoever Is For David, Let Him Follow Joab!"

XXXV. "With All Of The Factors And Facets Of The Lower To Middle Layer Completely Secure, Even With Their Defects -- Which Are Left On Purpose For Someone To Be Able To Take Advantage Of Them On Purpose On Multiple Layers Of The System -- The Higher Authorities Establish Was Secures All Of The Lower Layers Up To The Middle Layers Together Through A Communication Ring Between Them Run By An Official Who Knows What Everyone Says And Also Helps Spread Messages Throughout The Network But Does Not Tell The Fullness Of Certain Information To Specific Layers All The Way Up To His Own Knowledge, Though He Is The One Both Connected To Each Of The Layers And Also Establishing Each Of Them Through The Communication. Afterward, He Begins To Consume Those That Become Threatening In A Secured Fashion That Is Supported By Those Above Him Who Look To Him For The Information About What Goes On In The Middle-To-Lower Layers Of The System That Cannot Be Reached From The Top Due To The Necessity Of Keeping The Secret Of The Conspiracy So That None Can Tell What Happened Nor How To Take Advantage Of The Defects In The System And The Positions Corresponding To The People Who Assume The Positions In David's Kingdom. Hence The Ambiguous 'Cannot Say What' Having Layered Meanings Up To And Beyond Double Entendres." - Ventilation

In demonology, Marchosias is a great and mighty Marquis of Hell, commanding thirty legions of demons. In the Ars Goetia, the first book of The Lesser Key of Solomon (17th century), he is depicted as a wolf with gryphon's wings and a serpent's tail, spewing fire from his mouth, but at the request of the magician he may take the form of a man. He is a strong fighter and gives true answers to all questions, and is very faithful to the magician in following his commands. Before his fall he belonged to the angelic order of Dominations (or Dominions), and when he was bound by Solomon he told him that after 1,200 years he hoped to return to Heaven ("unto the Seventh Throne").[1]

In the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum (1577) of Johann Weyer the demon is called Marchocias and his description is much the same as that given in the Goetia except that his gender when appearing as a wolf is female ("a cruel she wolf") and spewing forth "I cannot tell what" from his mouth. He likewise hopes to eventually return to the Seventh Throne but is "deceived in that hope." [2]

Collin de Plancy in his Dictionnaire Infernal (1818) draws on both sources for his description of Marchosias in his catalogue of demons.

The name Marchosias comes from Late Latin marchio, "marquis".

I. "Marchosias Is Depicted As A Female Dog When Transformed Because As A Being, He Is A 'Bitch' So To Speak, When It Comes To Fighting Head On. He Ends Up Running Away And Telling On People Angrily."

II. "Though Marchosias Is Upset At What Events Transpire Between The Marquises, He Cannot Tell Just Anyone What Is Happening, And Only Someone Who Will Actually Help Him And Not Kill Him -- Which Is Why He Becomes A Female Dog And Runs Away, Being As Subservient And Loyal As Possible."

III. "Marchosias Is A Brown-Noser And Therefore When He Goes Out To Tell About The Events That Happen With True Answers, It Is -ONLY- To Receive A Reward And A Promotion."

IV. "Because Marchosias Is The Name That Is Derived From 'Marquis,' He Is The Transitionary Marquis From The Marquis To The Higher Powers, Since They Know He Is Both A Coward And A Tattletale, And Also A Brown-Noser. Therefore They Deceive Him Into Believing He Will Gain Honor And Favor For Telling Them Things And Give Him Treats Like A Dog Without Ever Actually Promoting Him Higher, Expecting Him To Be Slain."

XXXVI. "With The Network Established Binding Together All Of The Middle-To-Lower Class Of The System And Their Exploitable Defects, A Saboteur Over Saboteurs Is Sent Out From A Higher Position In Order To Inspect The Ranks For Saboteurs And Traitors. They Are Immediately Sabotaged Or Taken In Under The Wing Of The Saboteur Overseer In Order To Teach Or Hone Their Skills. The Specialists Are Then Withdrawn By The Leading Official Whilst The Others Are Merely Taught How To Sabotage In Basic Means Such As Poison Or Planting Incriminating Or Hazardous Material In Certain Places At Certain Times, Especially Valuables Or Earthly Possessions. This Official Also Teaches How To Taint Or Corrupt Earthly Materials In Order For Them To Be Used As Saboteur Traps So That Those Who Pick From Them Will End Up Being Damaged By The Hazard, Or 'Poison' That Was Planted. This Keeps Possessions From Being Moved Too Much Or From People Who Have Issues With Theft From Stealing, And To Know Who They Are. Plus, It Ensures That Saboteurs That Are Against The Ranks Are Dealt With Quietly And Exposed In The Light Based On The Sabotage Trap Alone. The Leading Official Then Cares For Those Of His Saboteur Specialty, Since They Need To Be Watched By Someone That Knows About Those Sorts Of Intricate Methods And Can Actually See Them When They Are Done Or When Something Is Tainted." - Taste

Stolas[5] is a Great Prince of Hell, commands twenty-six legions of demons, and teaches astronomy and the knowledge of poisonous plants, herbs and precious stones. He is also known as Stolos, Stoppas and Solas. He is depicted as either being a crowned owl with long legs, a raven, or a man.

I. "With All Of The Prince Copies That Are Becoming Standardized All Across The World In The Image Of The Perfect Prince Inclusive To His Defects, Other Forms Of The Prince Evolve From The Model And The Defects."

II. "The Prince Defect That Is Created Through Envy Of Greater Princes Which Are Formed Naturally Through Natural Selection Will Reveal Something In The Princedom That Exposes Their Insecurity In Their Own Eyes About How They Perceive Themselves And Others Around Them In Comparison -- Which Is A Judgment Error."

III. "The Great Prince -- Stolas -- Is A Perceptional Defect That Enlarges The Weakness Within Its Actual Isolation Of Itself."

IV. "Because Of The Defect Of Stolas That Makes Him A Demon Being Something That Is Self-Afflicting, It Ends Up Becoming Contagious Or Contaminating To People That Share The Same Perception Or Reflection And Will Stunt A Prince Into Being Something Lesser Than The Greatest Potential And Influence, Making Only A Prince That Will Forever Be Under Another By Seeking To Copy And Remain Hazardous To The Growth Of Other Princes Naturally."

Note: "Teaching Poisonous Herbs Means To Be The Bane Of Existence To Something, Which Is What Stolas Is To Princedom, Itself -- Thus Creating Perpetual Flaws With An Eternally Neutralizing Effect That Stunts The Growth Of Overall Potential As A Severe Hazard, To Prevent Neutrality (Especially Too Early)." - Damnation (Prince)

XXXVII. "The Next Official Is The 'Appraiser'. This Person Raises Others Up Or Drops Them Down, And Is Very Keen On Patience And Being Praised For His Place And Power Or Authority. He Is Always Able To Rise To His Place If He Falls Because He Is Patient, Innocent And Truthful And Searches For Others Who Are Similar Or The Same That May Be Being Taken Advantage Of Or Targeted For Their Beauty Or Artistic Talents. Those People Are Protected And Should Someone Envious Of Their Purity Attempt To Taint Them, Then Those Children Of The System Are Covered By Their 'Voice' Or 'Song', Which Is The Honesty And Sincerity In Them That Is Like The Rising Of A Phoenix. They Are Thus 'Phoenix' Children That Eventually Become Overseers Of All The Others, Like The Angel 'Raphael'. They Are Taught Then All Of The Lordly Things, Such As Judgment And Execution In Order To Tell The Truth From A Lie And Boasting From Sabotaging, As Well As Potion From Poison. Those Who Are Impatient Disrespect His Presence And Power And Are Judged As Being Greedy, Lustful, Ungrateful Or As Beggars That Should Not Go Beyond His Power Or Layer Of Authority. The Patient Ones Arise Because Of This Automatic Level Of Judgment That Comes With Him, Which Makes Him Like A Priest And A Judge. Even So, He Is Sometimes A Blowhart And Eccentric, Thus Embellishing And Overexaggerating Things Due To The Poeticism And Artistic Expressiveness, Which Ends In Overstimulation To The Point Of Sometimes Rewarding Kiss-Asses And Tearing Down Those That Are Independent And Outgoing Just For Being Ignorant, Which Is Unrighteous Vanity -- The True Defect Of This Official And His Position In The System; Rewarding Brown-Nosing Obedience And Dismissing Intrinsic Individuality. He Also Tests Who Are Haughty And Vain By His Own Standards Of Haughtiness And Vanity By Rewarding Or Praising What Is Wicked Or Incorrect, Which Corrupts Both His Position And Power As Well As The Offspring, Making It Very Dangerous For Him To Embellish, Lie Or Reward Improper, Defiling, Lowly Or Ugly Methods." - Show

In demonology, Phenex is a Great Marquis of Hell and has twenty legions of demons under his command. He teaches all wonderful sciences, is an excellent poet, and is very obedient to the conjuror. Phenex hopes to return to Heaven after 1,200 years, but he is deceived in this hope.

He is depicted as a phoenix, which sings sweet notes with the voice of a child, but the conjurer must warn his companions (for he has not to be alone) not to hear them and ask him to put in human shape, which the demon supposedly does after a certain amount of time.

Johann Wier's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum describes this spirit as follows:

"Phoenix is a great marquesse, appearing like the bird Phoenix, having a child's voice: but before he standeth still before the conjuror, he singeth many sweet notes. Then the exorcist with his companions must beware he give no ear to the melody, but must by and by bid him put on humane shape; then will he speak marvelously of all wonderful sciences. He is an excellent poet, and obedient, he hopeth to return to the seventh throne after a thousand two hundredth years, and governeth twenty legions."
