The demons are described as being commanded by four kings of the cardinal directions: Amaymon (East), Corson (West), Ziminiar (North), and Gaap (South). Ars Theurgia Goetia[edit]
The Ars Theurgia Goetia mostly derives from Trithemius's Steganographia, though the seals and order for the spirits are different due to corrupted transmission via manuscript.[5][13] Rituals not found in Steganographia were added, in some ways conflicting with similar rituals found in the Ars Goetia and Ars Paulina. Most of the spirits summoned are tied to points on a compass, four Emperors tied to the cardinal points (Carnesiel in the East, Amenadiel in the West, Demoriel in the North and Caspiel in the South), sixteen Dukes tied to cardinal points, inter-cardinal points, additional directions between those. There are an additional eleven Wandering Princes, totaling thirty one spirit leaders who each rule several to a few dozen spirits.

In demonology Ziminiar or Zymymar is one of the four principal kings that have power on the seventy-two demons supposedly constrained by King Solomon[1] (according to the Lesser Key of Solomon), and is not to be conjured except on great occasions. The other three kings are Amaymon, Corson and Gaap (although some translations of The Lesser Key of Solomon consider Belial, Beleth, Asmodai and Gaap, not giving detail on the cardinal point they rule).

Agares (also Agarat, Agaros, or Agarus) is a demon described in demonological grimoires.

Agares is described in grimoires such as the Livre des Esperitz (as Agarat), the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, the Lesser Key of Solomon, and the Dictionnaire Infernal as a duke "under the powers of the east," an "old man, riding upon a crocodile, and carrying a hawke on his fist," who teaches languages, stops and retrieves runaway persons, causes earthquakes, and grants noble titles.

Lemegeton Clavicula Salomonis and the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum both list him as the second spirit, and state that he commands 31 legions of demons, while the Livre des Esperitz (which describes him simply as an old man) gives him 36.[1][2][3][4][5]

The Book of the Office of Spirits places him (as Agaros) second under Oriens and describes him as an old man riding a cockatrice, without the hawk.[6] The Grimoire of Pope Honorius (which refers to him as Agarus) is more brief, omitting the crocodile and hawk, and omitting his functions beyond languages and titles.[7] The Grand Grimoire features him as a subordinate of Lucifuge Rofocale.[8] According to Thomas Rudd, Agares is opposed by the Shemhamphorasch angel Jelial.[9][10] Sloane MS 3824 mentions Agares throughout in invocations to summon spirits that guard treasure,[11] and in the "Experiment of Agares," meant to draw him into a crystal.

Agares (or Agreas[5]), ruling the eastern zone of Hell, and being served by 31 legions of demons. He can make runaways come back and those who stand still[7] run, finding pleasure in teaching immoral expressions. He also has the power to destroy dignities, both temporal and supernatural.[5][8] He is depicted as a pale old man riding a crocodile.

He rules twenty-six legions of spirits, and is summoned to tell magicians of past and future events, and locate lost objects. He is one of the few spirits found in the Lesser Key of Solomon but not in Johann Weyer's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum.[1][2] Vassago is mentioned in the Book of the Office of Spirits as Usagoo, appearing as an angel, "just and true in all his doings," with the powers of inciting the love of women and revealing hidden treasures, in addition to ruling twenty spirits.[3] Sloane MS 3824 mentions Vassago in invocations to summon spirits that guard treasure,[4] and in the "Experiment of Vassago"[5] and the "Experiment of Agares," both intended to capture the named spirits in crystals.[6] According to Rudd, Vassago is opposed by the Shemhamphorasch angel Sitael.[7]

Gamigin is the fourth Goetic demon described in the Lesser Key of Solomon (referred to in the Crowley/Mathers edition as Samigina), and (as Gamygyn) forty-sixth in the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, in both works as a marquis who initially takes the form of a small horse before transforming into a hoarse-voiced human. The Lesser Key of Solomon merely leaves his duties at teaching liberal arts and giving accounts of souls that died in sin.[1]

The Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, Thomas Rudd's variant of the Ars Goetia, and the Dictionnaire Infernal go into more detail, with Gamigin forcing the souls of those who drowned into "airy bodies" to answer questions in either, with Weyer and de Plancy further claiming that Gamigan can do likewise for souls "which dwell in purgatorie (which is called Cartagra, that is, affliction of soules)".[2][3][4] According to Rudd, Gamigin is opposed by the Shemhamphorasch angel Ieuiah.

Aamon (also Amon and Nahum), in demonology, is a Marquis of Hell who governs forty infernal legions. Aamon is a demon and the Grand Marquis of Hell and the seventh spirit of the Goetia. He is not to be confused with the Egyptian god Amun, who often shares the same name as him.

The names Aamon and Amon come from the god Amun or from the god Baal-hamon of Carthage. Nahum means who induces to eagerness.

According to the "Dictionnaire Infernal" by Collin de Plancy, he commands forty legions of demons and carries the title of prince. He is also an entity many looked to reconcile friends and foes, and procure love for those seeking it.

He was written about by Johann Wier in 1583 in the "Pseudomonarchia daemonum"

In demonology, Barbatos (UK: /bɑːrˈbeɪtɒs/, US: /bɑːrˈbeɪtoʊs/) is an earl and duke of Hell, ruling thirty legions of demons and has four kings as his companions to command his legions. He can speak to animals, can tell the future, conciliates friends and rulers, and can lead men to treasure hidden by the enchantment of magicians.

His name derives from Latin barbatus, meaning "bearded, old man of the demon of hell, philosopher".

He is the 8th demon in The Lesser Key of Solomon, while Pseudomonarchia Daemonum lists him as the 6th demon. He is also mentioned in Grand Grimoire as subordinate of Satanachia.

Paimon (also Paimonia, Paymon) is one of the Kings of Hell, more obedient to Lucifer than other kings are, and has two hundred legions of demons under his rule. He has a great voice and roars as soon as he comes, speaking in this manner for a while, until the conjurer compels him and then he answers clearly the questions he is asked. When the conjurer invokes this demon he must look towards the northwest, for there is where he has his house, and when Paimon appears he must be allowed to ask what he wishes and be answered, in order to obtain the same from him.
Paimon teaches all arts, philosophies and sciences, and secret things; he can reveal all mysteries of the Earth, wind and water, what the mind is, and where it is, and everything the conjurer wants to know, gives good familiars, dignities and confirms them, binds men to the conjurer's will.
If Paimon is cited alone, some offering or sacrifice must be done, and he will accept it; then two kings called Beball (Bebal or Labal) and Abalam (Abalim) will go to him together with other spirits, often twenty-five legions; but these other spirits do not always come unless the conjurer call upon them.
Paimon is depicted as a man with an effeminate face, wearing a precious crown, and riding a dromedary. Before him often goes a host demons with the shape of men, playing trumpets, cymbals, and any other sort of musical instruments.

Paimon is a spirit named in the Lesser Key of Solomon (in the Ars Goetia),[1] Johann Weyer's Pseudomonarchia Daemonum,[2] Collin de Plancy's Dictionnaire Infernal,[3] the Livre des Esperitz (as "Poymon"),[4] the Liber Officium Spirituum,[5][6] The Book of Abramelin,[7] and certain French editions of The Grimoire of Pope Honorius (as "Bayemon");[8][9] as well as Sloane MS 3824.

The Goetia and Weyer begin their entries on Paimon noting that he is quite obedient to Lucifer.[1][2]

Paimon appears is the ninth spirit in the Goetia[1] the twenty-second spirit in the Pseudomonarchia Daemonum,[2] and in the Dictionnaire Infernal.[3] In the Liber Officium Spirituum, he is first listed as the sixth spirit[5][6] and later as the third king.[11][12]

The Goetia, Weyer, de Plancy, Livre des Esperitz, Liber Officium Spirituum, and Sloane 3824 all rank Paimon as a king.[1][2][3][4][10][5][6][11][12] The Livre des Espiritz, Sloane 3824, and the Grimoire of Pope Honorius specify that Paimon is king of the west.[4][10][8][9] In the Book of Abramelin (where his appearance is given no description), he is instead one of the eight dukes.[7]

The Goetia, Weyer, and de Plancy warn that if Paimon appears alone, a sacrifice must be made to summon Bebal and Abalam, two kings who serve under him but do not always accompany him. These three sources state that he rules 200 legions of spirits, some of which are of the order of Angels and the rest Powers.[1][2][3] The Livre des Esperitz, on the other hand, credits him with just 25 legions of spirits.[4] Sloane MS 3824 mentions him as commanding a "bishop" named Sperion, among other spirits.[10]

Critical editions of the Lesser Key of Solomon list him as a former Dominion.[1] Weyer notes a confusion over whether he was a former Dominion or Cherub.[2] According to Thomas Rudd, Paimon is opposed by the Shemhamphorasch angel Haziel.[13]

Practicing occultist Carroll "Poke" Runyon suggests that the name ultimately derives from "a Middle Eastern Pagan Goddess", on the grounds some manuscripts depict Paimon as a young woman riding a camel, and that the name "Paimon" purportedly meant "a tinkling sound" in an unspecified language, in turn a claimed reference to Isis.[14] This is part of an overall claim that the Lesser Key of Solomon was by Solomon and rooted in Mesopotamian mythology.

In the Goetia, Weyer, de Plancy, Livre des Esperitz, Liber Officium Spirituum, and Sloane 3824, he is described as a man riding a Dromedary or camel, preceded by men playing loud music (particularly trumpets).[1][2][3][4][10][5][6][11][12] Sloane 3824 describes the camel as crowned,[10] while the rest describe Paimon himself as crowned.[1][2][3][4][5][6][11][12] The Goetia itself makes no mention of Paimon's face,[1] while the rest describe him has having a woman's face but still refer to him using masculine pronouns.[2][3][4][10][5][6][11][12]

Sloane 3824 and the Liber Officium Spirituum describe him as having a "Hoarse Voice,"[10][5][6][11][12] and those works, Weyer, and the Goetia note that he must be commanded to speak plainly,[1][2][10][5][6][11][12] with the Liber Officium Spirituum specifying that Paimon will speak in his native language until commanded to converse in the summoner's own language.

The Goetia, Weyer, Livre des Esperitz, and the Liber Officium Spirituum all describing him as teaching science and answering other questions.[1][2][4][11][12] The Goetia and Weyer specify that his knowledge includes all arts and "secret Things," [sic] such as knowledge regarding the Earth, its waters, and the winds.[1][2] The Livre des Esperitz and the Liber Officium Spirituum broaden this to truthfully answering all questions asked of him,[4][11][12] with the former source also claiming that he can reveals hidden treasures[4] and the latter highlighting that he knows all the affairs of the world.[11][12] The Goetia, Weyer, and the Livre des Esperitz also claim he has the ability to bestow dignities and lordships.[1][2][4] The Goetia and Weyer credited him with granting familiars (who are likewise good at teaching).[1][2] The Liber Officium Spirituum uniquely gives him command over fishes.[11][12] Sloane MS 3824 mentions Paimon in "An Experiment to Cause a Thief to Return."[10]

In Abramelin, Paymon's powers include[16] knowledge of past and future events, clearing up doubts, making spirits appear, creating visions, acquiring and dismissing servant spirits, reanimating the dead for several years, flight, remaining underwater indefinitely, and general abilities to "make all kinds of things" (and) "all sorts of people and armor appear" at the behest of the magician.

Buer is a spirit that appears in the 16th-century grimoire Pseudomonarchia Daemonum and its derivatives, where he is described as a Great President of Hell, having fifty legions of demons under his command. He appears when the Sun is in Sagittarius. He teaches natural and moral philosophy, logic, and the virtues of all herbs and plants, and is also capable of healing all infirmities (especially of men) and bestows good familiars.[1]

He has been described as being in the shape of Sagittarius, which is as a centaur with a bow and arrows. Additionally, Louis Le Breton created an illustration of Buer, later engraved by M. Jarrault, depicting the demon as having the head of a lion and five goat legs surrounding his body to walk in every direction.

Aim (aka Aym or Haborym) is a Great Duke of Hell, very strong, and rules over twenty-six legions of demons.
