| Description A deep, cavernous underground crag filled with many pools of lava. One should be wary to watch their step as to not fall in. The pathways twist and turn, intertwining as an elaborate nexus between the pits of varying shape and size. They are ways away from the typical volcanic mountains, as most all of the land seems to be flat and deep underground, however they are definitely the handiwork of these active volcanoes over the years. Some of the pits erupt like molten geysers, since they are connected to the volcanoes and are the lava that has 'backed up' to sustain such pits. Whatever excess lava comes from the Hyperion Mountains ends up here, being filled and drained back into the ground before it can overflow elsewhere, allowing for clean sweeps of the entire mountain range without ever overflowing to the rest of the Dawn. History Over the years of active volcanoes constantly erupting, the lava eventually melted the thinner parts of the land and fell back down into the molten pits below, becoming a sort of 'drainage' for when the lava overflowed across the land. This thin area was dubbed the 'Lava Pits,' as the lava is known to rise and spew up like geysers and also drain overflowing lava from all around. It is the sole range that keeps the Ardent Road accessible. The portion of the Ardent Road that travels to the Lava Pits, noticeable because the canyons have receded and become mostly flat land filled with lava spots. Though it is perfectly able to be traversed, it is still more dangerous than the solid roads of the main Ardent Road because these roads are thin and can spray geysers of lava at any time. The really thin land breaks away even at the slightest bit of weight, so watching your step here is very, very crucial when walking the Ardent Road to the Lava Pits. | |
