| Those that are dragons or akin to dragons are known as 'Drakons' or 'Drakaina' for females. Most Drakons have incredible longevity, and are able to live for hundreds, or even thousands of years. They are also normally very akin to the spirits and very wise, some even able to cast magic or jutsu. They are inherently very physically powerful and durable, normally thanks to scales and dragon blood. As Dragons, they are able to breathe fire and fly, however not all Drakons are able to do such, and some are able to manipulate or 'breathe' different elements from within. They are very skilled when it comes to the manipulation of chakra, which is why they tend to know about the ways of Jutsu. Most, if not all, are considered to be 'Reptilian' (even if not listed in its monster info page). They are mostly solitary beings that hold power and knowledge in high regards. Some are able to assume human forms and transition between being dragons and human, or even partial dragons at will. Thus, they can also be considered 'Beastkin,' as well. Name: Dragon Species: Drakon/Drakaina Specific Species: Drake, Wyrm, Wyvern Type: Reptile Elemental Affiliation: Fire, Earth Combat Specialty: Balanced/Well-Rounded Sociability: Aggressive, Arrogant, Strong-Willed, Proud, Noble, Protective Threat Level: High Habitats: Cave of Wonders (Common), Ardent Road (Common) Enigmatic Ruins (Uncommon) Weaknesses: Ice element Immunities: Fire Element, All Status Ailments Item Dropped: Dragon Fang, Dragon Scale, Dragon Claw, Gemstones Additional Info: Half damage from all elements. Resistant to both Physical and Non-Physical attacks. Weapons Claws Wings Tail Fangs Body Horns Spikes Natural/Signature Abilities Dragon's Flame: A powerful and extremely hot flame spewed from the mouth that burns through any barrier and any defenses, melting them all away with concentrated flames of the mighty Dragon. Fireball: Concentrates powerful fire into a condensed, highly explosive sphere in hand or in mouth and flings it at high speeds to destroy what it hits with a grand explosion. Dragon's Roar: The mighty roar of the proud Dragon, which boosts its natural will to fight, thus increasing its overall physical powers by a great amount. Dragon's Guard: The mighty scales of a dragon shimmer and glow, coating the dragon in a highly protective layer of force that increases their defensive parameters by a great amount. Dragon's Eye: The ever keen gleam of the Dragon's eye, which exposes the weakness of their opponent to him, as well as reveals any falsehood in the area. It also raises its own accuracy. Sometimes, it can even be used to hypnotize others through mind control and powers of suggestion. Dragon Info Image One of the highest types of monsters, combining a strong body with high intelligence, revered as symbols of power and dominance. They are fearsome reptiles with sharp claws that can tear through steel, and breath of fire that can incinerate anything. They have been titled as “rulers of the earth” because of the enormous power they possess, which is nearly unparalleled to most creatures. They take an arrogant, high-handed attitude towards not only humans, but other creatures as well, and will always challenge or accept challenges from others to continue to prove their great strength. As most creatures, they are able to take on both animal and human appearance, and their human appearance is much smaller than their great draconic form. They love treasure including precious metals, jewels, and rare magic items, and are known to guard places with these things, or even carry some jewels with them. Their layers are full of all of the “treasure” they have collected. Although they have high intelligence, their behavior and emotions are strongly governed by their instincts, and they can’t go against them. They are “champions of the earth” and as such, they frequently look down on the weak and consider them worthless, insignificant beings. Because they are 'cold-blooded lizards,' as one might say, they seem to lack compassion, however this is only because their race is dictated by respect for the strong. Thus, the only way to prove your worth to a Dragon is to best it or to show your might in another way for it to be impressed. They are natural protectors of what they find precious and valuable (as shown by their love of jewels and rare items), so once you are proven to be of worth by a Dragon, it will protect you with its life. They even end up having endearing feelings for those they are protecting. Caves and Volcanoes typically suffice for their dens, however this is also dependent on the type and element of the dragon. | |

| Great Dragon
An immense dragon with more power than a Behemoth and twice the size of one, as well. Its strength is unmatched and it is extremely durable and very hard to kill. It's one of the elite monsters that shouldn't be fought unless you are truly ready. It wields powerful magic, Thundaga as well as physical attacks. Definitely shouldn't be taken lightly at any time. Dangerous poison flows through its veins, making it that much more deadly.
Attacks Poison Claw: Slashes with claws tainted with poison that surge through its body.
Thundaga: A level 3 spell. An immense downpour of nothing but lightning that will destroy everything that gets in its way.
Venom Breath: Spews out breath that is tainted with venom and will contaminate the air, poisoning all who breathe it.
Weakness: Ice.
Immunities: Silence, Darkness, Confuse, Vanish.
Blue Magic Learned: Def-Less.
Item Dropped: Ether.
Additional Info: Receives half damage from Electrical element.

Wyvern Info
With both arms being huge wings this dragon species is known as the “Wyvern.” With the same powers as other dragons, this variety can also return to the form of a normal dragon, which is much more slender and swift than normal dragons, built for aerial combat. While it’s physical strength is inferior to a dragon’s, its huge wings give it exceptional abilities in the air, able to turn much tighter and outdistance its kin when it comes to speed.
Unlike the dragon, they are neither haughty nor too prideful, never looking down on others. However, they are heavily driven by their instincts, have an abrasive personality, and are very willing to attack others if they feel threatened or hungry. When they are hungry they will take to the skies and circle a large area, and when they finally spot a man they like they will initiate an “attack” by diving out of the air and swooping down onto their targets. They will then pin it down with their strong legs and begin to consume.
Knights, called “Dragoons,” or "Dragonguard" are known to use dragons as their mounts instead of regular horses. Dragons though, despite being the iconic representatives of their race, rarely do this, their pride making it a Herculean task to convince one to let you ride it. While dragons lend their name to the “Dragoons,” the lack of the typical dragon haughtiness in wyverns means that they are actually the more common mount amongst dragon knights, and thus are considered 'standard issue,' one could say. Taming and riding another species of dragon is far more difficult, only because of their pride. However, while a dragon mount is fairly tractable, a wyvern’s abrasive nature, their inclination to start fights, and innate instincts can make them difficult to manage, even if they have been partners for a while. It takes real skill to tame and train a dragon, even as a Dragoon.
If a knight attempts to mount a wild wyvern, there will be a struggle about whom the superior sometimes. If you fail in your attempt to gain dominance, it will not listen and force you to the ground, sometimes even threatening to devour you. A safer method than this is to attain a wyvern’s egg and train it from a young age to act as a dragoon’s mount.
Because of the close contact and large amount of time a dragon knight and his mount spend together, love and a lot of mutual trust comes to be shared between them, this makes them better able to cooperate when working together. To help their bonding in the future, many children of dragon knights, both humans and wyverns, are raised together so that they can bond at a young age. By nurturing this love for as long as possible, they gain a strong understanding of one another, creating the strongest dragon knight pairings.

A type of Dragon that has the upper body of a woman, and a long, snake-like lower body. Because of the powerful, magnificent way they advance by crawling on the ground, they are also called “earth dragons.” Even though they are a lesser race of “dragon”, in terms of raw power, they’re no better or worse than dragons. Their body is sturdy enough to crush boulders by ramming, they’re covered in hard scales, and they have endless stamina. However, their intelligence is extremely low, their thoughts are simple, and basically all they think about is mating with human males. Their personalities are ferocious, and since they aggressively assault human men when seeking a reproductive partner, they are feared as monsters even more dangerous than dragons.
Wurms are especially dangerous once they’re in a state of arousal after detecting a human male. If there’s a boulder in front of them, they’ll smash it and continue onward. If a man hides in a forest, they’ll mow down all the trees and beeline straight to his position. Once they’ve spotted their prey, every obstacle is meaningless to them, and they’ll never stop until they get their man. It’s difficult to run, but even more difficult to fight and drive them away, so it’s even said that the easiest way to stop a wurm is to give her a man. Actually, so long as they’re able to catch a man, the inside of their head becomes colored with thoughts of nothing but sex with the husband they just obtained. They will either bind the man with their long body and begin sex right then and there, or bring him back to their lair to take their time.
Their bodies are covered in hard scales, but the scales can recede, exposing soft, sensitive skin so that the abdomen, and especially the front part of their upper body are very sensitive to receive pleasure from the heat and touch of a man’s body. To them, their snake belly and bare skin are their weak points during mating. In fact, they very much enjoy feeling a man with these weak points, and like a Lamia family monster, they normally coil around the man and try to glue their bodies together as closely as possible. When they assault a man, they are extremely ferocious, and the sex is also violent, but once they’ve settled down with a husband, they think of their husband as “a male for impregnating themselves” and they think of themselves as “a female for bearing that male’s offspring.” For that reason, it’s surprisingly easy to tame them as long as one can take the lead during sex, exploit their weak points, and exhibit his power as a male. Though they possess the overwhelming power of the dragon family, because of their simple and meek personalities they can become very affectionate and obedient.
Additionally, like the original dragon, it’s possible for them to change into the form of an enormous dragon from before the Demon Lord seized power. However, since that is inconvenient for having sex with men, and all they think about is sex, they don’t assume that form if given a choice.

Weapons
(WIP)
Natural/Signature Abilities
Petriglare: A terrifying gaze for all who look into its eye within the middle of its head, turning them into stone upon eye contact. It may also shoot a super fast beam of energy from its eyes with an explosive effect, changing all in the explosion's way into stone.
Slow: A stare from the eyes of the creature causes a powerful distortion in space and time in a certain area or within a certain target, causing them to move as slow as the Basilisk sees fit.
Stone Breath: Generated internally from a special sac harboring this special gas, the Basilisk releases a gray smoke that will turn whatever it touches in its vicinity into solid stone, petrified on contact.
Sonic Tail: Altering the speed of its tail via space-time control, the Basilisk will vibrate its tail at supersonic speeds, lashing it out at the foe to cut clean through them. Alternatively, it rattles violently like a rattlesnake and releases a Silencing sound wave that negates all special abilities. Touching this tail seals away your special abilities, Silencing you.
Cold Stare: It focuses its potent space-time magic into its eyes and shoots a magical glare at the foe in the form of a distorted wave of freezing cold fluctuating space-time power. This wave, upon contact with anything will cause what it hit to be frozen in time and harm their bodies via spacial distorting power.
Space-Time Vorpal: A quick glow of its middle eye causes space and time around itself to stop. It, however, may still move. The distortion of space and time then expands outward, rending the bodies all that it comes in contact with whilst also stopping the flow of space and time within them until its power is complete. Afterward, their bodies fall to ribbons.
Destroy Soft: Eliminates the use of Soft if/when the user uses/has them by any means necessary.
Heaven's Cataract: Calls down a magical beam from the heavens with an enchanting tune, that will not only burn through your body and your spirit, but through all defenses that oppose it as well. The higher your defenses are, the more damage it does, as it destroys all defenses.
Magic Break: With a blue, glowing eye, the Basilisk stares at the foe and slowly depletes their energy. The longer it stares at them, the more powerful it becomes.
Parry: Parries an oncoming attack and raises evasion and reflexes every time it is done by honing the senses.
Tail Spear: Stabs tail into foe and drains life, also inflicting Slow on them.
Hunter's Gaze: The primal gaze of the hunter. So long as it looks at you, you cannot inflict damage of any kind on it, for it will read all of your attacks like a book and counter or evade them.
Destroy Remedy: Eliminates the use of Remedy if/when the user uses/has them by any means necessary.
Gradual Petrify: A gleam in the eyes of the bug-eyed lizard induces a gradual petrification process, which, in 10 or more turns after use, will cause whomever it has caught sight of to turn completely to solid stone. If it is with a group, its ability will not halt until it and all of its group members are dispatched, and then the curse will be relieved.
Slow: A stare from the eyes of the creature causes a powerful distortion in space and time in a certain area or within a certain target, causing them to move as slow as the Basilisk sees fit.
Tongue: Whips extremely long, painful and sticky tongue covered in an odd film of saliva out on the foe, causing whomever is hit to fall into deep slumber.
Stone Breath: Generated internally from a special sac harboring this special gas, the Basilisk releases a gray smoke that will turn whatever it touches in its vicinity into solid stone, petrified on contact.
Gnaw: Chews through something with powerful jaws without relent.
Petrify: A special magical influence is created around the foe's area which causes the area in that spot to become grayed out. If the foe is to stay in that grayed area, they, too, will become Petrified.
Break: A powerful beam of concentrated petrification energy shines down from above as a ray of gray light on the target. Only a moment or two after it does, whatever is caught in this light is petrified instantly. Things that are already petrified will then shatter to nothingness, making it impossible for the petrified object to be recovered.
Tail: Whips with its long, scaly, spiky tail for a powerful sting and most likely inflicts a deadly gash upon the opponent.
Quara: A powered up version of the Quake spell, where the Basilisk hops on the ground rapidly like a frog, creating powerful, unsteady and uneven seismic waves to blast through the ground, causing the earth to shoot up violently as spikes or as ruptured earth to harm the opponent.
Stone Strike: The same petrifying power it focuses into its eyes, it does into its tail and will extend it to whip the target, changing whatever it has touched into solid stone.
Acid Breath: Another special sac in its body generates an acidic toxin, which it promptly spews from its mouth and onto its foes, poisoning them and if not that, melting them with its acidic properties.
Poison: From its body, it releases a terrible green gas from all around, spreading a poisonous fog all over. Alternatively, it will spew green liquid at the foe which will stick to them and poison them.
Basilisk Info
A variety of Lamia-Drakon hybrid able to maintain its body temperature regardless of its environment, preferring to live in arid and mountainous regions even still. It has two distinctive scale-patterns on its breast which are said to be the result of interbreeding between two strains of reptile. As its body is covered with scales of surpassing smoothness, it is able to move quickly through areas of deep snow or sand. A single piercing Gaze from that Eye turns the body to stone, or so it is said. They call it the 'Gorgon's Eye.' This is because it is believed to be a child of Medusa who had relations with a dragon. There are also a certain species of Lizard known as the Basilisks as well, for they possess the power to change things to stone as well. Though the Basilisk is able to turn things to stone with just a glare, this power, like Medusa, is able to be turned on and off. However, it is also rumored that if one stares a Basilisk directly in the eyes, they die on contact.
Because of the powerful, magnificent way they advance by crawling on the ground, they are also called “earth dragons.” Even though they are a lesser race of “dragon”, in terms of raw power they’re no better or worse than dragons. Their body is sturdy enough to crush boulders by ramming, they’re covered in hard scales, and they have endless stamina. However, their intelligence is comparatively low, their thoughts are simple, and basically all they think about eating. Their personalities are ferocious, and since they aggressively assault creatures simply because they move, they are feared as monsters even more dangerous than dragons.
Basilisks are especially dangerous once they have detected their potential prey. If there’s a boulder in front of them they’ll smash it and continue onward. If their prey hides in a forest they’ll mow down all the trees and beeline straight to its position. Once they’ve spotted their prey every obstacle is meaningless to them, and they’ll never stop until they get it, whether they are hungry or not. It’s difficult to run, but even more difficult to fight and drive them away, so it’s even said that the easiest way is to avoid them altogether and try your best not to be noticed.
Their bodies are covered in hard scales, but the scales can recede, exposing soft, sensitive skin, usually done when moving silently and swiftly, or when shedding. To them, their snake belly and bare skin are their weak points. Though they possess the overwhelming power of the dragon family, because of their simple and meek personalities they can become very obedient, if defeated. Their eyes gleam when they activate their Petrification or Death Gaze power.
Additionally, like the original dragon, it’s possible for them to change into the form of an enormous dragon-serpent, if they so choose.

| Makite [/center] Ancient, rare, and secret Draconic beings which are very closely related to the Creator. They resemble children and imps, though are also dragons. They have sharp, pointed legs and tiny claws, usually found wielding tridents as their main weapons and having a variety of different powers and attributes, being far more versatile than any normal dragon. They live in their own realm isolated from all others. The most notable are Galgon the Gargoyle, Chill the Ice Makite, Kairo the Makite Queen, and Loa, Ruler of Makite. | |

| Dracozombie
These are giant undead, zombie dragons. The Dracozombies are normal enemies that are difficult to take on without some sort of Holy or Healing ability, since Holy and Healing hurts the undead rather than helps them. Although, the Dracozombies can be defeated without those things because they are still susceptible to most attacks. The Zombie Dragon, however, who is the king of the Dracozombies, does not fall so easily. Unlike the Dracozombies, it can change into a ghostly state where ALL physical attacks do no damage to it and all nonphysical attacks that are not Holy or Light based will do extremely little damage to it. It looks exactly like a Dracozombie, except for the fact that it is a LOT bigger. The only way to take it out of its ghostly state is with Light, Holy or Healing abilities, which will hurt it significantly. It will revert to its ghostly state if not dealt with while it has been changed back to corporeal form. Their bodies paralyze you if you touch them. They are terrible to fight without Light, Holy or Healing things.
Dragon Zombies are, as their name suggests, Dragons that have become part of the Undead. Due to their arrogant disposition, it is not uncommon for many Dragons to die without ever claiming a human man as a husband. Regardless, their nature as Monster Girls still causes those Dragons to die with great regret deep in their hearts, which in turn causes their corpses to revive as Undead. As a result of their revival, Dragon Zombies lack the pride inherent to their past lives as Dragons, and now only seek to claim a man to fill the voids left in their hearts. Likewise, as part of their Undead nature, Dragon Zombies have infinite stamina and no longer breathe fire; instead they now possess a miasma-like "rotten breath" that corrodes away a man's rational mind (thereby making him act on his reproductive instincts) and turns women into other Undead such as Zombies and Wights.
"Dragons", the rulers of earth, turned undead. Due to the height of their arrogance, dragons look down upon human men as unworthy, and there is no small number of them who will live out their entire life without having ever copulated with a man.
Mamono mana gathers in the corpses of such dragons, combining with their lingering regret over not having been able to find a man to be their husband and have children with, reviving them as "dragon zombies". In exchange for an imperishable body, their mind, rational faculties, and pride as a dragon completely rot away in a slimy manner, and they become exactly "female lizards" who are constantly dripping with love juices and will only seek what they couldn't obtain while still alive: to copulate with a human man and produce children.
They are instinctual, instead of rational like they were when still alive, and their obsession with sex will drive them to attack and attempt to violate a human man upon spotting one. Their thoughts are simplified, and their movement slows down a bit, but since they still fully retain the power of a dragon, one of the highest of all monsters, and becoming undead makes them inexhaustible, they'll persistently continue pursuing a person they recognize as a male until the bitter end. Furthermore, their fiery breath from when they were living changes into "rotten breath" that's very similar to miasma, and those hit by it will have their rational mind and will to resist rot away, men becoming males driven only by the instinct to reproduce with the female in front of them.
Their body, which was firm in life, will loosen up, and their figure changes to be favorable to males, feeling pleasant to embrace, combining softness and resilience in such a way that if a man runs his fingers over their breasts and buttocks, the softness allows his fingers to easily sink in, as if to indicate a willingness to receive a male, and the resilience is enough to push them back.
Their vagina greedily hungers for a man, and while it is elastic enough to easily completely engulf a penis, once inserted, it will be held snugly inside and won't let go. Love juice is excessively secreted just like saliva and used as lubricant, and the penis is greedily devoured with a squish, making the man their prisoner.
They are extremely ferocious, but conversely, it is said that if a man were to attempt to violate them, they would immediately grow docile and accept it. When attacking a man, the dignified expression they had while still alive is gone, yet neither do they have the look of a predator confronting prey. It's merely the slovenly expression of a female fawning on a man. As far as they are concerned, launching an attack on a man is also just an extreme form of "coaxing", and all they're doing is fawning on a man. In other words, if a man seeks to copulate with them himself, then they have no reason to attack.
After obtaining a husband, when basking in the instinctive bliss of being desired as a female by a male, and having their womb filled with male semen, their appearance no longer gives off an aura of ferocity as it did when they were starving. However, by becoming undead, the instinct to protect the male they obtained as their treasure is also strengthened. Should it seem that their spouse will be harmed, they'll become half-crazed, fly into a rage, and spew "rotten breath" haphazardly. In the case of men, the effects of the breath will wear off in time, but in the case of women, their resistance to monsterization will be corroded along with their rational faculties, and they'll change into undead such as "Zombies", "Wights", etc. It can easily result in a horde of undead.
Attacks Strike: Strikes with rotton claws, decaying teeth or decrepitly powerful wings or tail.
Thundara: A level 2 spell. Multitude of lightning rains down from the sky on the foe.
Zombie Breath: Spews out horrid, decaying breath that will Zombify the foe as well as hurt them.
Death: Causes the opponent to die (dice roll.)
Poison Breath: Spews out a green, poisonous gas that will swiftly contaminate the air and poison the foe.
Lunge: Lunges its gigantic, zombified body at the foe, the zombiness of its body stunning the foe if touched by it.
White Tornado: Releases a gigantic white tornado that will paralyze and immobilize all who are within it or get hit by it.
Petrification Beam: A small, but extremely fast beam is shot from the mouth that instantly Petrifies whatever it touches, turning it to stone.
Weakness: Fire, Ice, Holy
Immunities: Confuse, Vanish. [Zombie Dragon] All except Holy (while in its ghostly form).
Blue Magic Learned (From Dracozombie, not Zombie Dragon): Death.

| Ryujin
This Japanese dragon, symbolizing the power of the ocean, had a large mouth. He is considered a good god and patron of Japan, since the Japanese population has for millennia lived off the bounty of the sea. In many versions Ryūjin had the ability to transform into a human shape. Many believed the god had knowledge on medicine and many considered him as the bringer of rain and thunder. Ryūjin lived in Ryūgū-jō, his palace under the sea built out of red and white coral, from where he controlled the tides with magical tide jewels. Sea turtles, fish, jellyfish, snakes, other sea creatures are often seen as Ryūjin's servants.
Just like Dragons and other reptiles, they are cold-blooded and poikilotherms. Ryu-Jin scales are incredibly tough, as they are stronger than steel, can deflect bullets, and are practically immune to cutting weapons. However, nowadays, threats to Ryu-Jins are rare. These scales also have a tendency to catch clothing. Ryu-Jins also have to maintain them lest they get rough to the touch, but that is an undertaking in of itself. Longevity: As a Ryu-Jin, Myuu has one of the longest life expectancies of all Liminals and can live up to ten times as long as a normal human, around 700 to 800 years. Ryu-Jins have a scale somewhere on their bodies that grows in the reverse direction then the others, and they hate it when people touch it, to the point where they would go as far as to kill the toucher. The scale is an extremely sensitive/private issue as the sensation of it being touched temporarily renders them docile and limp. As a result they may attack once they regain their composure out of a feeling of being violated. Unlike Dragons that have wings, Ryu-jins are wingless. Ryu-jins have powerful tails, powerful enough to withstand their entire body weight, though this tail also restricts on not only to Ryu-jins mostly sleeping on their stomachs because they can't lie down on their back because of said tail, it also forces them to purchase specially-made underwear. The tip of a Ryu-jin's tail is an extremely sensitive erogenous zone. Celestial Bureaucrats: Ryu-jinns are stated to be agents of the Celestial Bureaucracy, with each member having their own particular function in ensuring the smooth governance of the world. Every year, Ryu-jinn officers journey to the Celestial Palace to file their reports of the previous year's activities and events. Rewards and punishments are distributed based on the evaluation of the records. A corrupt or inefficient ryu-jinn may be removed and replaced by a new appointee; an industrious ryu-jinn may be promoted to a position of higher responsibility. They are known for being modest, loyal and naturally diplomatic, as well as for a tendency to be fascinated by humans and humanoids. Insectoid Fear: For unknown reasons, insect, arachnid or arthropod beings are afraid of Ryu-jins and will actively avoid interacting with them.
they resemble Eastern Dragons, and as such, they have deer-like horns and long tails. They have no wings, making them appear to be lizardmen at first glance. They possess an immense vitality, and live much longer than most humans, up to ten times a normal human lifespan. Their reverse scale are their weakness.
Seiryū Seiryuu青竜 せいりゅう
Translation: azure dragon Alternate names: shōryū, seiryō, sōryū, chinron Habitat: the eastern sky
Appearance: Seiryū is a large blue-green dragon with a long tongue. His home is in the eastern sky. He spans seven of the twenty-eight Chinese constellations, taking up one quarter of the entire sky. The constellations which make up the horn and neck of the dragon are located in Virgo. The constellation which makes up the chest of the dragon is located in Libra. The constellations which make up his heart, belly, and tail are located in Scorpius. The final constellation makes up his dung, and is located in Sagittarius.
Interactions: Seiryū is one of the shijin, or Four Symbols, which are important mythological figures in Taoism. Seiryū is the guardian of the east. He is associated with the Chinese element of wood, the season of spring, the planet Jupiter, and the colors blue and green. He represents the virtue of benevolence, and symbolizes creativity. He controls the rain. He is enshrined in Kyoto at Kiyomizu Temple, in the eastern part of the city.
Origin: Seiryū and the other shijin were brought to Japan from China in the 7th century CE. They are strongly associated with Taoism, feng shui, astrology, the five element theory, and other forms of Chinese mysticism. The ancient capitals of Fujiwara-kyō, Heijo-kyō, and Heian-kyō were built in correspondence to these beliefs, with each of the quadrants of the city dedicated to one of the Four Symbols. Excavations of ancient burial mounds in Nara has revealed paintings of Seiryū and the other shijin on the tomb walls.
In later centuries, belief in astrology waned, and worship of the Four Symbols was gradually supplanted by worship of the Four Heavenly Kings of Buddhism. Their use as symbols, however, continued.

| Ryūtō Ryuutou龍燈 りゅうとう
Translation: dragon lights Habitat: oceans, coasts, lakes, rivers, and other bodies of water Diet: none
Appearance: Ryūtō are kaika which appear just above the surface of the water on calm, peaceful nights. They create no heat, nor do they burn anything. They are only found in bodies of water which are home to dragons.
Behavior: Ryūtō start out as single orbs of flame which hover a few meters above the surface of the water. They soon begin to multiply, until there are countless orbs. These fireballs float about aimlessly along the water, stretching and shrinking and morphing their shapes. Some of them sink back into the water. Others float up into the sky or nestle into the treetops. At dawn, they merge back together into one orb before vanishing back into the sea.
Interactions: Ryūtō are considered by the Japanese to be a manifestation of light caused by the dragons which inhabit bodies of water. Areas where ryūtō routinely appear often have shrines near them, and the lights themselves are considered sacred. On nights that ryūtō appear, people gather along the shore to watch these dancing and changing holy flames.
Legends: The Itsukushima Shrine in Hiroshima Prefecture (old Bingo and Aki Provinces) is not only one of the most famous shrines in Japan, but also a popular sightseeing location for watching ryūtō. The lights appear on the tranquil surface of Hiroshima Bay for about a week starting on New Year’s Day. They are believed to appear because the Itsukushima Shrine is dedicated to the gods of the sea and thus is connected with Ryūjin.

| Shokuin 燭陰 しょくいん
Translation: torch shadow Alternate names: shokuryū (torch dragon) Habitat: Mount Shō Diet: none; he does not need to eat, nor drink, or breathe
Appearance: Shokuin is a mighty god with the face of a human, and the body of a red dragon. His body is said to be 1000 ri long (an ancient unit of distance which varies quite a bit from age to age and place to place)—an immeasurable distance, meaning that he is impossibly large. He lives at the foot of Mount Shō, near the northern sea. His eyes glow like beams from a lighthouse, and his breath is so strong that it changes the seasons.
Behavior: When Shokuin opens his eyes, day falls upon the earth. When he closes them, it becomes night. When he inhales it becomes summer. When he exhales it becomes winter. Shokuin does not need to eat, drink or breathe to survive, but when he does decide to breathe it causes huge gusts of wind.
Origin: Shokuin originally comes from China. Shokuin is the Japanese pronunciation of the characters that make up his name; in China he is known as Zhuyin or Zhulong. Many yōkai were lifted straight from Chinese by Japanese authors—some of them more or less word for word, others undergoing quite a bit of a transformation and reinterpretation, depending on how much liberty the authors decided to take. Toriyama Sekien’s description of Shokuin doesn’t undergo too much of a change from his source: the Sengaikyō (Chinese: Shanhaijing), an encyclopedia of fantastical Chinese mythological creatures. However, Shokuin appears in a number of other Chinese books, many of which contain contradictory statements about precisely where he lives and other details about him. It isn’t clear where exactly his home of Mount Shō is located, but Toriyama Sekien describes it as being near the Arctic Ocean.
Due to his size and the effects that his blinking and breathing has on the day/night and seasonal cycles, Shokuin may have been an ancient Chinese solar or fire deity, or even a personification of the sun. It has also been suggested that Shokuin may have been the aurora borealis. An ancient Chinese name for the northern lights was “red spirit,” and the location of Shokuin far to the north further supports this theory. To the ancient Chinese, the aurora may have looked like a giant red dragon thousands of kilometers long writhing across the northern sky.

| Ryu 龍 たつ
Translation: dragon Alternate names: tatsu, ryō, wani; known by many specific individual names Habitat: rivers, waterfalls, mountains, lakes, seas, and palaces deep in the ocean Diet: capable of eating anything
Appearance: Tatsu, Japanese dragons, are similar in appearance to the dragons of China and the rest of the world. They have long, scaled bodies, serpentine tails, sharp teeth and claws, and often have horns, antlers, spines, and beards. Some tatsu have multiple limbs or heads. Many disguise themselves as humans and are never seen in their natural forms.
Behavior: Tatsu are strongly connected to water—be it rain, rivers, seas, or oceans—and are considered to be water gods. They live in splendid palaces at the bottom of deep seas, or in other secluded places. They usually live far from human-inhabited areas, but occasionally make their homes near Buddhist temples. Like Western dragons, they hoard vast amounts of treasure and keep powerful magical artifacts in their homes. Many are great villains, tormenting mankind out of spite, while others are pure and kind, offering their wisdom and power to those seeking it. Some tatsu even allow worthy heroes to visit them, and lend their magical items to noble warriors.
Interactions: Tatsu rarely concern themselves with human affairs unless it affects them directly. They accept worship and sacrifices from humans; many temples maintain the holy grounds of local dragons, and countless Japanese make pilgrimages to holy mountains inhabited by tatsu. Tatsu receive prayers for rain or for protection from floods, and other water-related requests. Fireworks festivals, ritual dragon dances, and other local celebrations honor these dragon gods all over the Japanese islands.
Origin: Tatsu are one of the oldest supernatural creatures known in Japan. The first recorded stories go back to the earliest written accounts of Japanese history and mythology, the Kojiki and the Nihongi. Over the centuries, tales of the Chinese long and Indian naga were incorporated into Japanese mythology. Today’s Japanese dragons are an amalgamation of these imported myths merged with the indigenous water deities of prehistoric Japan.
Legends: The Japanese imperial family, the oldest hereditary monarchy in the world, is supposedly descended from dragons (as well as other gods). The monarchy is said to have been founded in 660 BCE by Emperor Jimmu, the legendary first ruler of Japan. His father was the son of Toyotama hime, who in turn was the daughter of Ryūjin, the dragon god of the sea. So by tradition the emperor of Japan is the direct descendant of a dragon.

| Dragula
Also known more readily as the 'Vampire Dragon', but has become colloquially known as the 'Dragula', mostly because of the song. Either name functions, but 'Dragula' has become the more predominant term because everyone really likes the song that the name comes from, despite 'Vampire Dragon' being more technically correct. They are said to leach the blood of other dragons regularly, since they are of similar size, but they are so bloodthirsty that they will consume the blood of anything, even if it will not fill them. Also, they are known to be graverobbers that like to feast upon corpses, most notably 'Zombies'. As such, they tend to dig through ditches in graveyards for their feed, and are also well-known for burning witches and consuming them for their Manna in order to power their own. Another undead delicacy that they enjoy are actual vampires, especially after they've just feasted and are full, meaning a greater gain for the Dragulas. However, some Vampires are known to be able to tame Dragulas as pets, and those who do are seen as legends, since the Dragulas really enjoy feasting on undead entities, specifically Vampires. Despite being large and reclusive, they enjoy the sport of drag racing in the skies, especially when it comes to hunting to see who can consume the fastest. In the Fae community, they are terribly feared, since three of the more common Fae -- Zombies, Vampires, and Witches -- fall into their feeding category.
They also like the frequency of metal, both the material and the music, and are attracted to either. They enjoy it so much that they will actually befriend those who share that love and refuse to eat them.
