Initially being failed planets which did not exceed a certain evolutionary status quo, once being discovered by beings of any type of higher intelligence, the very grounds of its existence became synonymous with imprisonment and torture. More advanced societies which developed farther than most yet still failed to meet evolutionary optimality are often used as correctional facilities or forced labor camps. They are also mined for general resources, since the population is destined for extinction along with their planet.

Even though it is commonly and frequently destroyed by its own lifeforms, and there has never been a documentation of one actually growing past its seed stage, the possibility does exist that it can happen, yet no one knows what the result of that possibility is. Most hope never to find out.
