Project Description

The Flashpitch Project is designed to provide a unique opportunity to present a prepared speech (persuasive/pitch) in a real-world setting. A review panel will be set up for the final FLashpitch presentation to give you feedback from a professional point-of-view. This is a chance to harness, practice, and present your creative ideas as a collaborative process. As professionals, in the "real world," you will be expected to give presentations like Flashpitch. The ability to successfully communicate your ideas, whether individually or as part of a group, is a skill that will serve you personally and professionally.

Parameters And Expectations

The Topic

Choose a project concept - it can be an idea for a business, a proposal for a product, the basis for a concept in development. This can be a film, game, storyboard, sound recording, or other creative work or product.

The Collaborative Team

You will be in groups designated by the Instructor. Each member is responsible for presenting an equal portion of the final product, including the presentation itself.

The Panel

Identify the panel's specific function in listening to your presentation. This can include financial support, physical and/or material resources, and professional feedback on the viability of your team's idea. Alerting them to their purpose will create the proper frame of mind.

Deliverables (Format)

"How Entrepreneurs Come Up With Great Ideas"

For each of the assigned readings, write a 300-500 word reflection. Relate your experiential knowledge to what the author is saying. Do not give the reader a summary of the reading. This essay is not about facts but rather the thoughts this article provokes. You may find that evaluating the reading is a way of relating to it and sharing your own thoughts and experiences.

Be sure to mention the name of http piece you are reflecting on; it will give you and the reader a context for your thoughts. At the end of your reflection, cite the piece using correct MLA format.

The Proposal

Each team will write a proposal to define their project, the panel's purpose, and the audience. Each team member's name and function will appear on the proposal because this document will serve as the cover sheet of the evaluation form that every panelist fills out.

The Worksheet

Each team will create a worksheet defining the work flow/schedule for this project. Each team member will have specific responsibilities and due dates for completion.

The Outline

Each team will create an outline, which will serve as the "script" for their presentation. The outline will help all team members stay on track.

The Presentation

Each team member will present for approximately 2-3 minutes (total time allowed each tem is 20 minutes including time for the panel to offer feedback). There should be a logical flow, of well-organized information, and a good use of visuals/Power Point, which may include a small sample of your project (a game, a film clip, an audio clip, etc).

The Postmortem/Self Evaluation

The postmortem will serve as the team's evaluation of itself. By considering the postmortem questions beforehand you will have a good idea of how you will be evaluated by the panel and graded by your instructor. The self-evaluation should serve as a rubric for your individual performance.

Collaborative Process
-This will be an overall analysis of the instructor observations during the classroom sessions; the professionalism the group displayed; and the overall content of the proposal.

-You will present your pitch to a panel and be graded on the viability of the project, the content, the delivery and execution (the energy, physical presence, eye contact, vocals, equal participation, etc.)

Postmortem
- In the 250-500 word, written Postmortem, you will analyze your collaborative presentation as well as your specific contribution. What worked? What didn't work? What would you do differently next time? How can you improve? Each team will prepare a collaborative postmortem and each individual will write a self-evaluation. Your postmortems are due in the class following Flashpitch. Be prepared to discuss this in class.
