| Sacred or Divine animals known commonly as 'Devas.' The most well-known 'Sacred Beasts' are the Twelve Chinese Animals of the Zodiac, as well as the Twelve Constellations of the Zodiac. Many mythical beasts are considered Sacred Beasts, as well as worshipped animals, gods, deities, guardians and the like. They are always much more wise, intelligent and powerful than normal beings, and tend to use their power to keep order within the world, because they have that understanding and foresight.
They can shift between Fae and Human form.

Tanuki Info
A very rare, but very famous Yokai known for its many rare wares and its exceedingly cunning personality and illusory magic. They use various magical abilities to deceive people, including transformation (normally into a raccoon or another beast), and typically transform themselves into a human shape rather than their small Tanuki state. Their spells are powerful enough to alter everything about their being, including scent, and the magic that masks their soul is similar to Soul Protect of the Witches, though instead of simply masking the magic, it literally transforms the projection of its wavelength to match that of another animal, making it totally unable to be deciphered. This is what makes it a legendary creature of cunning escapes, for when it transforms, you won't know where it is.
Being highly intelligent, they seem to have a flair for business, and carry many mystical and rare artifacts from their travels through other worlds along with them. Such is another reason why they are sought out, for they have some of the rarest items known to man. Thus, many live as merchants (sometimes, even as Black Market merchants) and money lenders, and are keen of striking up deals and agreements. As they are so adept at handling money, many of them carry tons of gold on them at all times. If one makes an agreement with a Tanuki, it is bound by magic, and if it is broken, then the effects will automatically incur even without the Tanuki being around. Thus, one can say to be very wary of making a deal with them if you can't keep up your end of the bargain.
They may seem friendly and nice, but many of them are wily and simply wish to obtain more money. They're known as the 'Businessmen of the Forest.' It isn't uncommon for a more corrupt Tanuki to use their wealth, smooth talking and deceptive magic to coerce entire societies to do as they wish. They are also rumored to have a connection with the Goblins. Many agreements they make seem outlandish and they know cannot be kept by the contractor, however with the promise of such money and legendary items, it usually doesn't make a difference and they swindle people into debt to them. Once you are in debt to a Tanuki, they say you're their slave for life, unable to pay off such an outlandish debt.
So great is their art of cajolery that they are rumored to own entire impoverished families, cities and even races of beings. This makes them dangerous not in the art of fighting, but in the art of speechcraft. Though this may seem like deeds of evil, what they really wish for is to recreate society to make it better for everyone, even if they have to go about it in such a way... Whilst also making a bit of profit in the process. They are fully aware of and how to exploit the corrupt nature of human hierarchies and use their magic and supernatural abilities as leverage over others. Thus, once they take over, instead of things falling to pieces and being more corrupt, they actually get better for all, including other species of monsters.
Because of all of this, they are viewed as symbols of economic fortune, and the places they buy off are always well taken care of. When doing business in their normal form, they always tell the truth and never lie or trick anyone, however when transformed, they will swindle you out of house and home without feeling a lick of regret. Because of such sketchy business, they are often considered dangerous and it is recommended not to make deals or buy items from creatures in the forest too often. You may end up indebted to a Tanuki.
They’re one of the most famous yokai mentioned in tales, along with inari. They can use various spells to deceive people, including spells of transformation, and illusionary spells. Their “spell of anthropomorphosis” is especially tricky. They can change not only their shape, but also their scent and the aura given off by their magical energy into those of humans. It’s so effective that heroes or monsters with only scant knowledge of the magical arts wouldn’t be able to catch on to their true nature. Their race is highly intelligent, and has a unique flare for business. Many of them live as merchants or money lenders. They’re extremely adept at handling “money” which we can say equals power in human society. At a glance, they seem cheerful and amicable, but their true nature is wily. Using the spell of anthropomorphosis and their financial prowess, they live amongst humans while secretly maneuvering to seize human men as well as control over society itself. Many gyoubu danuki are among the pillars of human society.
When they seize a human man, they use the power of money, smooth talking, and schemes. They usurp control of human territories and merchant families. They buy out entire impoverished families at once, seizing not just the man himself, but all related properties, social ranks, etc. They also use atrocious, coercive methods involving the use of smooth talking and illusionary spells to deceive men, and force them into debt. It’s not uncommon to find men who pay off the debt by offering them their body. By seizing capital and social standing in this way, they force men into obedience and claim them for themselves. So great is their appetite for sex that they’re even referred to as “lust incarnate,” and after having sex with them just a single time, the men are already defanged. Their mastery of the art of cajolery ensures future obedience, and soon they own not only the man’s wealth, but his heart as well. The men end up entrusting everything to them on their own.
Though their deeds may seem quite atrocious, it’s not all in the name of self-profit, or for the sake of bringing about the ruin of humanity. They are monsters, and their husbands are human, so the reason they seek to seize control over human society is to remake it so that it will be easier for them to spend lascivious days together. Their objective is to make it so that they and other human-monster couples can live in happiness. For example, if they take over a territory, it develops into a monster-friendly territory. If they take over a merchant family, business grows due to their performance.
They bring wealth to all poor families they buy out, and as wives they end up giving back even more wealth and love to the men who offered their bodies to pay off their debts. Since they bring wealth and prosperity to men and families they set their eyes on, many people treat them as “symbols of economic fortune.”
Additionally, although they mainly inhabit Zipangu, being merchants, many of them travel outside of Zipangu. They can probably be found throughout the world setting up shop, or working as peddlers. In such cases, if they’re doing business in monster form, they’ll never lie, and always be truthful, so one can have peace of mind. However, on the contrary, if they’re in human form, they sell products like “Prisoner Fruit,” “Succubus Nostrum,” etc. stuff that causes monsterization, while trying to pass it off as “good for health and beauty.” etc. Since their businesses are often sketchy, they’re regarded as dangerous.

The Guardian Beast of the desert, some call it the Sanctuary Keeper, for it keeps all things sacred under divine protection. This Sacred Beast is the protector of all, and nothing goes unknown in the pyramids it protects. The gods place these creatures in specific places to guard ancient secrets and ensure the forces of evil never prevail within their walls. They have been gifted with the task of protect Lost Technology, Ancient Magic and any unknowns or mysteries hidden within the eerie structures of the lands. Their magic is fathomless and indescribable. Be wary of these sacred creatures, and never wander into where they protect. Though they will greet those of valor and virtue with respect, they will not allow anyone permission unless granted by divine order.
Within the desert regions, they were known in the past to protect the ancient magics of the Pharoah and within the Enigmatic ruins, the magics of the Grand Magistrate of old. With high intelligence and unwavering honesty and sense of truth and justice, they loyally serve the gods and do their bidding on the earth. If intruders are found within their region of protection, they are interrogated and placed under incredibly powerful Curses, even changed into one of their mummified servants to help protect their lands. If something unexpected happens, however, they tend to get confused and act of their primal 'beast' instincts, reverting to claws and fangs. Sometimes, they'll even assume a bestial form.

Sphinx Info
A sacred creature that protects the deserts along with its counterpart, the Anubis. Frequenting the desert regions, they traverse the sandy dunes with great agility and ease in search of tainted beings roaming the sands. Though their will is full of purity and light, they are natural arrogant and 'holier than thou' sorts of creatures, even though that is not their intention. Typically mixed with the parts of man and feline, one may consider it a beast similar to a 'Chimera.' There are golems created in their images created by them, and serve as guardians or protectors as well as landmarks to their territories.
These beings take the best of all the creatures incorporated into their being. On top of having impeccable physical prowess, like other cat types, it has been blessed with the intelligence of the Pharoah as a human, which leads it to harness incredible magical power. Like the Anubis, they are charged with keeping the Sacred Pyramids safe, only instead of from the inside, they keep watch from without, patrolling the sands and keeping a close eye with their golem constructs.
They are renowned for their riddles and their great curses, combining them both to keep those who meet with them from even nearing the tombs. IF they are not asking a riddle, they are asking a question, usually one which judges one's character. If someone answers one of their questions wrong, they are afflicted by a terrible curse, and the effects of the curse only become worse the more questions they answer incorrectly. The Sphinx is a natural lie detector, and if someone is lying, then they will know and viciously attack.

Can converge with any body of water. Can retreat into shell for extra defenses. Weapons (WIP) Natural/Signature Abilities Water Magic Kappa Info An aquatic amphibian with an odd appearance, seeming to be also part reptile and part human. With the shell of a turtle, the gills of a fish, skin of an amphibian and body of a human, this creature is an odd sight to see. It is typically found in swamps and rivers, but is sometimes known to venture out into the larger bodies of water. It has a special power to become whatever water it wishes, completely converging with it. Its appearance is very nearly human, save for some features such as green skin and the shell. Its webbed feet make it the best swimmer there is; faster than any creatures. This also comes from their extremely powerful legs, which also allows them to jump high, swim faster and be so agile. Though most of them are mischievous and like to play pranks, they are not evil and by no means would harm someone unless they felt threatened. Kappa children also often intermingle with human children, as they are a very social race. When their bodies are wet, their powers make a sudden drastic jump. In areas where Kappa roam, it is dangerous to linger aimlessly near the water's edge, for they are known to hop out in surprise and drag people under into the waters, potentially drowning them. They also sometimes pop out of toilets and steal people's souls. The dishes on their head are always filled with water. This water is pure water of the Lifestream, and so it sustains them. The only way this water spills is if they tip over, and if it is poured out, they lose a tremendous amount of strength, sometimes so much that they can't even move anymore. If their dish isn't filled up after a certain period of time, they will die. Any water that enters their dish immediately becomes Lifestream water. They are extremely adept at water magic and have extreme physical strength when their dish is full, but these powers also falter when the water spills from their heads. They are specifically cited in the early settings info as typifying the "neighborly" monsters who freely intermingle with humans in that eastern land. Like the Yuki Onna, it's particularly their young who enjoy intermingling with human children. It's not quite right to say that kappas are non-violent, as their preferred form of interaction in their younger years is to play sumo with boys, practising the skills that will one day see her come back and really push down her 'favourite opponent'. Translation: river child Alternate names: kawatarō, kawako Habitat: rivers, lakes, ponds, waterways, cisterns, wells; found throughout Japan Diet: omnivorous; prefers cucumbers and human entrails Appearance: Kappa are aquatic, reptilian humanoids who inhabit the rivers and streams flowing over Japan. Clumsy on land, they are at home in the water, and thrive during the warm months. Kappa are generally the size and shape of a human child, yet despite their small stature they are physically stronger than a grown man. Their scaly skin ranges from a deep, earthy green to bright reds and even blue. Kappa bodies are built for swimming; they have webbed, thumbless hands and feet, a turtle-like beak and shell, and an elastic, waterproof skin that reeks of fish and is said to be removable. Other inhuman traits include three anuses that allow them to pass three times as much gas as humans, and forearms attached to one another inside of their shells—pulling on one arm lengthens it while the other arm contracts. But their most distinguishing characteristic is a dish-like depression that lies on top of their skulls. This dish is the source of a kappa’s power and must be kept filled with water at all times. Should the water be spilled and the dish dry up, the kappa will be unable to move. It may even die. Behavior: While younger kappa are frequently found in family groups, adult kappa live solitary lives. However, it is common for kappa to befriend other yōkai and sometimes even people. Possessed of a keen intelligence, kappa are one of the few yōkai able to learn human languages. They are highly knowledgeable about medicine and the art of setting bones. According to legend, friendly kappa taught these skills to humans. For fun, they love causing mischief, practicing martial arts like sumo wrestling, and playing games of skill like shogi. Kappa are proud and stubborn, but also fiercely honorable; they never break a promise. Kappa will eat almost anything, but they are particularly fond of two foods: cucumbers and raw innards—particularly human anuses. Interactions: Kappa are revered in Shinto as a kind of water god. It is not uncommon to see offerings of cucumbers made at riverbanks by devout humans. In return, kappa help people by irrigating fields, befriending lonely children, or competing with adults in sports and games. Kappa can also be crass and dangerous. Lakes and rivers where they live are often marked with warning signs. Kappa particularly despise cows and horses, and will attack the animals for no reason at all. Mischievous by nature, they loudly pass gas in public and love to peek up women’s kimonos. Sometimes their mischief turns violent. Kappa have been known to kidnap or rape swimming women, and kill people. A kappa’s preferred method of attack is to drown its victims, or bite them to death under water. Kappa also devour humans alive. Usually they go for the rear end to get at the shirikodama, a mythical ball of flesh located just inside the anus. In the water, there is no escape for anyone who crosses a kappa. On land, however, it is possible to outwit one; the honorable kappa will feel obliged to return a bow. If it can be tricked into bowing so low that the water in its dish spills out, it can be overcome. Once bested, kappa have been made to swear loyalty and friendship to their victor for the rest of their lives. Specific Info (Species)Species Info Appearance: Ichimoku nyūdō is the guardian of Lake Kamo, the largest lake on the island of Sado in Niigata Prefecture. He is a water god with a large, single eye on the top of his head. He is often described as a kappa, or kappa-like in appearance. Origin: There are many legends all over Sado Island about the one-eyed god of Lake Kamo. These stories share many similarities, but have minor differences in story details as well as the god’s name. Kamokoshin (“the god of Lake Kamo”) and Hitotsume nyūdō (“one eyed priest”) are other common names for this spirit. Although today he is commonly described as kappa-like, however there are no original documents which describe him as a kappa. He is merely described as a water god. However, because he appears every year around New Year’s, there is a strong possibility that he is related to other raihōjin–visiting gods–such as namahage and toshidoshi. Legends: One fine day long ago, Ichimoku nyūdō grew curious about the lands surrounding Lake Kamo and decided to explore. As he wandered, he discovered a small copse of trees. Tied to one of those trees was a horse. The inquisitive Ichimoku nyūdō was fascinated by the creature. He climbed up onto its back and skillfully ride it around, laughing and crying out in joy. Unfortunately for Ichimoku nyūdō, before long the horse’s owner returned. He quickly captured Ichimoku nyūdō. While unmatched in the water, Ichimoku nyūdō was powerless on land. He could do nothing but prostrate himself before the human and beg for forgiveness. “Please sir, forgive me! If you let me go, I promise to catch fresh fish for you every day from now on. I will string them up under the willow tree by the lake with my magic hook. Just promise to return my magic hook, so I can catch more fish the following day.” The horse owner forgave Ichimoku nyūdō and released him back to the water. The next day, he visited the willow tree by Lake Kamo, and sure enough, there was a large, splendid, freshly caught fish hanging from the branches by a lapis lazuli hook. The man unhooked the fish and tossed the hook back into the water, then returned home. The following morning when the man returned to the willow, again a large, fresh fish was hanging from the branches. He took the fish and returned the hook to the lake. This continued for years. One day, the man had a nasty idea. That morning, when he retrieved the fish from the tree, he decided not to throw the hook back into the lake. He kept it for himself. However, once he did that, he never again saw a fish hanging from the willow tree. Then, on the 15th day after New Year’s, Ichimoku nyūdō attacked the man’s house, causing all kinds of damage. He prayed all night long to Buddha for protection. When morning came the attacks stopped–it seemed his prayers had worked. However, every year on the same day, Ichimoku nyūdō would attack again. The man was terrified. In order to protect himself from Ichimoku nyūdō’s wrath, he donated the lapis lazuli hook to a nearby temple dedicated to Kannon, the bodhisattva of compassion. The next year, Ichimoku nyūdō and an army of his underlings attacked the temple. The priests prayed throughout the night, and when morning came, they had been spared. Since then, every year on the 15th day after New Year’s, the priests at that temple prepare for Ichimoku nyūdō’s coming and prepare an all-night vigil to ward off his attack. In some versions of the story, the horse owner sells the lapis lazuli hook to a merchant for a great sum. After that, Ichimoku nyūdō attacks his house and slaughters his entire family. The terrified villagers then erect a temple to Kannon to pray for salvation from Ichimoku nyūdō’s wrath. CharacteristicsElements Properties of self or elemental attributes. - Spoiler:

White Snake (Shirohebi) Info
The legendary White Snake or 'Shirohebi'; a Lamia that is renowned for its benevolent nature, which goes against the normal nature of a typical Lamia. She harbors incredible powers and her scales shine a glistening silver in the light,. She moves so fast and silently that those who catch a glimpse of her know her only as the 'Silver Streak.' She is known also as the Ivory Beauty, and sometimes even as an envoy of the moon for the lunar dust her scales leave behind.
Very fond of the Ryu, the White Snake and Ryu work together to bring peace to the land, with the Ryu in the air and the White Snake on land, both meeting in the waters. Having very powerful elemental magic almost akin to that of Ryu, they are worshipped by some as gods. They are said to be tears from the moon that have taken physical form. With power from the divine, their elemental magic is blessed, which tends to have them purifying waters and spewing cleansing fires (in contrast to their watery nature) as well as enriching the soils they tread. If one appears in a land that is destroyed, chances are that soon, it will flourish once again.
Though these beings are generally divine and benevolent, when they come across a being of evil, they take a different approach and become serenely vicious, doing all that they can to cleanse the evil from their sight before they return to the waters where they sleep. When touched by her purifying Holy Flame, it is said that no darkness can maintain itself, and the white fire will continuously burn the soul and body until all is clean, with nothing able to put it out. Being of pure evil are incinerated without question.

It is said that if it blesses you with one of its Rainbow Eggs as it is dying, it is passing its will on to you as the new Bird of Paradise. Otherwise, this creature is wrapped in a shroud of rainbow mystery. She is the mother of all birds, and births them from her own feathers. (WIP) Points: ??? Soul Worth: ??? Gold Dropped: ???

| Carbuncle
Said to be a creature which can be an aquatic or terrestrial bivalve or small mammal, either embedded with or composed of rare minerals like gemstones.
Carbuncle (???) are a pseudo-human species from either Inca or Aztec mythology.
Carbuncle was a mythical creature reportedly sighted in the Americas by Spanish conquistadors. It is described as a small creature, either a bird or a mammal, that has a gem in its forehead crystallized from the brain of a dead dragon. According to myth, it is good luck to catch a carbuncle. A carbuncle is also an archaic name given to any red cabochon cut gemstone. The name applied particularly to red garnet.

| Kirin 麒麟 きりん
Translation: none; based on the Chinese name for the same creature Habitat: areas ruled by a wise and benevolent leader Diet: purely vegetarian; never harms another creature
Appearance: The kirin is one of the rarest, most awesome and powerful creatures ever known in East Asia. It is a regal animal, holy and highly revered. The kirin is often considered a god in its own right. Resembling a deer with scales like a dragon’s covering its body, the kirin is a chimerical beast. It has a tail like an ox and a flowing mane. Its body and mane are covered in brilliant, holy fire and its face is the picture of utter serenity.
Behavior: A gentle animal, the kirin never eats the flesh of other beings, and takes great care never to tread on any living thing, even insects. When it walks, it does so without trampling a single blade of grass. Its beauty is only surpassed by its rarity; the unicorn-like kirin only appears during periods of world peace. They are seen only in lands owned by wise and benevolent people and during the reigns of noble and enlightened rulers, where they herald a golden age. Although kirin never harm good and pure souls, they are swift and fierce to attack if threatened, breathing holy fire from their mouths.
Interactions: Because kirin are beasts of purity and goodness, they have been used in carvings and paintings as symbols of these virtues since early times. They are also seen as symbols of justice and wisdom. Because of their holiness, images of kirin frequently adorn temples and shrines. Omens of great luck and fortune, the appearance of a kirin is believed to be a sign of the arrival of a great leader or a wise man.
Origin: Kirin were introduced to Japan via Chinese myths and legends where they are known as qilin. Over time, the Chinese and Japanese version diverged into slightly different creatures. In Japan, the kirin is considered to be the most powerful and sacred beast of all, surpassing the hōō and tatsu.
Giraffes are also called kirin in Japanese, named for the traits they share with the holy kirin. Their long legs, scale-like pattern, gentle nature, and the knobs on their heads must have reminded the first Japanese to see a giraffe of this most sacred of beasts.
