This creature came to be through the adaptation of a plant which secreted a very potent nectar which attracted Mantises to it, which seems to be its primary purpose. The unfertilized Honeysickle plant releases its secretions once it is in fertility, and it attracts a Mantis, which will consume the nectar and leave behind trace amounts of its DNA, which are compatible catalysts to the Honeysickle's. The Honeysickle adapts properties of the Mantis that consumed its nectar and soon takes on the form of the Honeysickle Mantis.

Digs into ground with sickle leaf arms and buries toe roots and tail into soil to get nutrients and to grow. When habitat is threatened, it will either get up and move or fight back. It always has a very nervous, tense, distressed, wide-eyed expression on its face and a very blank smile. It is said that its face is like this because it is always picking up very subtle vibrations with its long antennae, which are sensitive and keen to the very slightest wavelengths.

From the air, on large insectoid leaf-wings, it hunts plants and insects with sickle leaf arms and paralyzes prey with the stinger that has developed from its body as a thorn. In addition to injecting its paralyzing secretion, it can drain life with its stinger and recover. They are known to make hives over Honeysickle plants and pollinate them, allowing them to grow all around the area. It always has a vacant, comfortable, lax expression on its face and a very blank smile. It is said that its face is like this because it is always experiencing the effects of its natural secretions internally.

Though they are both from the Honeysickle plant, the Honeysickle Mantis and Honeysickle Hornet are two distinct species due to the fact that the Honeysickle is not only not sentient, it is a normal plant until exposed to either catalyst, causing them to branch into different beings.
