-When I Started Analyzing And Documenting Japanese Language. Unfinished.-

Things I have picked up from hearing Japanese, watching anime and deciphering on my own how the structure of the language functions to whatever degree I can without any proper study or training. This is based on memory and critical analysis alone. 3< It will be added to, altered and structurally corrected as time progresses. Let's go (Ikuyo!)



Conjugation Chart



(Tamaguchi) Informal Present = Referring to Someone or Something in the Here and Now casually. (Presently Action = Neutral Word)



Formal Present = Referring to Someone or Something in the Here and Now with Respect.

iku (to go): Group 1 Informal Present(Dictionary Form) iku行く Formal Present(~ masu Form) ikimasu行きます Informal Past (~ ta Form) itta行った Formal Past ikimashita行きました Informal Negative(~ nai Form) ikanai行かない Formal Negative ikimasen行きません Informal Past Negative ikanakatta行かなかった Formal Past Negative ikimasen deshita行きませんでした ~ te Form itte行って Conditional ikeba行けば Volitional ikou行こう Passive ikareru行かれる Causative ikaseru行かせる Potential ikeru行ける Imperative(Command) ike行け



Ko- (Prefix) = Seems to denote something being nearby, as in 'Koko' or 'Kore.'



Koko = Here

Koko da = Here/Right here

Kore = This

Kore wa = This is





So- (Prefix) = Seems to denote something being distance, as in 'Soko' or 'Sore.'



Soko = There

Soko da = There/Right there.

Sore = That

Sore Wa = That is



A/Ai- (Prefix) = Seems to denote targeting something else, as in 'Achi' or 'Aitsu.'



Aitsu = That (Person)

Nan- (Prefix) = Seems to denote asking a question, or saying 'What?'



Nani = What?

Nani Kore = What is this?

Nani Sore = What is that?

Nan desu de = (Cant remember, but important.)





-Nai (Suffix/Ending Sentence) = Seems to denote not having something, or simply a negative, similar to the suffix '-sen.'





Nai = Nothing/Not (I think)

Nandemo nai = Nothing much.

-Shita (Suffix) = Seems to denote some sort of heightened politeness or 'already understood' sort of manner of speaking, as opposed to just finding out something (I think.) Past tense, or something.



Wakarimashita = Understood

Arigatou Gozaimashita = Thank you very much (formal? Maybe...)

Shimashita = Did





-Sen (Suffix) = Seems to denote some sort of lack of something, or a negative to be used to show that one 'Does Not Do' a verb.



Wakarimasen = I do not understand.

Shirimasen = I do not know





-Shii (Suffix) = Seems to denote feeling, emotions or something intangible, as in an idea or something.



Ureshii = Happy

Tanoshii = Fun

Sabishii = Lonely

Subarashii = Glorious

Tamashii = Soul (Tama = Egg; Shii = Feeling?)





Dou- (Prefix) = Seems to denote asking a question, something similar along the lines of referring to a person or object. 'How?'



Dou suru? = What will you do?

Doushitanda/Doushitano? = What Happened/What's Wrong?

Doushite? = Why?

Dousuka? = How's that?

Dou iu = What kind of...?

Doushiyou? = What should I do?

Ohayou (Gozaimasu) = Good Morning

Konbanwa = Good Evening

Konnichiwa = Hello

Oyasumi = Good Night

Sayounara = Goodbye

Mata au hi made = Until we meet again

Douitashimashite = You're welcome/No problem

Gomennasai/Gomen/Gomenne = I'm sorry (Politely)/Sorry/I'm sorry.



Eigo o hanasemasu ka. Do you speak English?
えいごをはなせますか。

Koko ni eigo o hanaseru hito wa imasu ka. Does anyone here speak English?
ここに えいごおはなせるひとはいますか。

Watashi wa nihongo ga sukoshi shika hanasemasen. I only speak a little Japanese.
わたしは にほんごがすこししか はなせません。

O-namae wa nan desu ka. What is your name?
おなまえはなんですか。

Watashi no namae wa Kaori desu. My name is Kaorii.
わたしのなまえは かおりです。

Note: Chikushou literally means “beast”, but used in slang as “Damn” or “Damn it”.

toroi- Slow to catch on, doesn’t “get it”
Example:

You’re slow to catch on, aren’t you?

kono yarou- You shit



もんく あっか?
Monku akka?- Do you have a problem?/what’s your problem?



ばか じゃない の?
Baka ja nai no?- are you stupid?/you’re not stupid, are you?
Note: baka ja nai means “not stupid”, but adding “no” at the end makes it an informal question. You should say the “no” with a rising intonation.



なに して の あほ?
Nani shite no aho?- what are you doing idiot?



なに はなして の あほ?
Nani hanashite no aho?- what are you talking about idiot?
