Mantis

The Mantises are Mantis People who typically are giant mantises that sometimes assume partial or full human shape to hide their scythe arms. Some can fly. Their scythe-like arms have blades that normally are as sharp as steel, and they are typically very stealthy and competent assassins. They tend to stick to forested regions and places with lots of plantlife, as they are omnivorous beings that eat both plants and creatures that appear within the forest. It also makes it easy for them to hide their presence.

Armanatra

Insectoid creatures that have incredibly hard exoskeleton plates that make up shells that protect their bodies and fragile wings, or 'beetles'. Their name means 'naturally armed (armored)'. This design helps create defense whilst still maintaining flexibility. They normally don superior strength, durability and flexibility due to this shell, which many seek to use for raw materials or to forge weapons. With legendary power, they are known to be able to effortlessly lift and carry several hundreds to even thousands of times their own weight, making them formidable adversaries. Though they are normally very heavy, they are capable of flight with their powerful sheathed wings beneath their shells. They are not preyed upon by any avian creatures as often as other insectoid creatures due to this hardness, and also because most have large and powerful horns that they can use to defend themselves.

Many of their species are known to be hoarders of various things, some even collecting energy in its purest form. Their species is very diverse and there is a type of Beetle found in almost every region and adapted to all types of diets. They come in a variety of sizes, some being rather small and others being quite large. Some are nonspecialist detritus feeders, breaking down animal and plant debris; some feed on particular kinds of carrion such as flesh or hide; some feed on wastes such as dung; some feed on fungi, some on particular species of plants, others on a wide range of plants. Some are generalist pollen, flower and fruit eaters. Some are predatory, usually on other invertebrates; some are parasites or parasitoids. Many of the predatory species are important controls of agricultural pests. Conversely, beetles are prey of various invertebrates and vertebrates, including insects, fish, reptiles, birds, and mammals.

Despite such power and diet, they are normally quite docile creatures that mind their own business and only interact in their own groups. They are not too aggressive and actually prefer to keep peace rather than to engage in fights. Only when they feel their lives, habitats or relatives are in danger will they rear up in great fervor, most likely completely decimating their adversary.

Bug type monsters covered in a sturdy exoskeleton that is like armour, impenetrable by both sword and arrows. They are heavy cavalry from birth, possessing organs of modified exoskeleton that are like weapons, shields, and horns, as well as a massive lower body. In combat, they appear as perfectly trained soldiers, never faltering or falling into disarray. They are taciturn, and poor at expressing emotion. On top of that, it is difficult to read emotion from their peculiar insect-like eyes.

The race's horns, weapons, and shields come in variety of forms. They are classified into different varieties such as “scissor beetles”, like the individual in the illustration, that have two horns, and a scissor-like weapon, “lancer beetles”, that have a single horn, and a spear like weapon, and “shield beetles”, that don't have horns, but do have a sturdy great shield.

This variety of soldier beetle is known as the lancer beetle, distinguished by her solitary horn and great lance.
They prefer sweet things, and they swagger through the forest with their heavy-looking body, lured by the sweet fragrance of their favorite treats: tree sap and the essence of human men. Also there are wings inside the carapace on their back, and they can even fly, if it's a short distance.

When they find a human man after being lured by the scent of his essence, they will attack for the sake of producing offspring. But before they copulate using their vagina, they will stick their face in the man's crotch towards the source of the sweet fragrance of essence, and crawl their tongue along his penis in attempt to lick up semen. By doing this, they first learn the taste of the semen of the man who will be their partner before going straight to breeding. It is said that once they have recognized a man as their husband in this manner, they will always follow along and wait nearby, behaving as if they were a soldier escorting him. From the manner in which they fight, they appear inexpressive, without the slightest hint of emotion, so they tend to be mistaken as heartless warriors.

However, once they get married, it becomes apparent that they certainly have a heart despite their lack of expression. They really like the taste of semen when they drink it through their mouth, and they will often want to drink it. It is said that sometimes they will even suddenly move their face toward their husband's penis and beg for his semen, which is like the sweetest nectar to them, somehow there's a spark in their eyes that shows just how enthralled and delirious they are. And when they're not able to drink semen, they puff out their cheeks and display an expression of dissatisfaction, even if it's only slight.

When copulating with their husband, they seize him and hold him in place with the forelegs growing from the area near the border between their human body and their lower body. If he tries to get away, they'll shake with repugnance, and show a selfish side that would be impossible coming from an emotionless soldier. And when semen is poured inside their womb, the spark of female ecstasy can definitely be seen deep within their moist eyes.

When they find a feeding site or a human man, if they also bump into another individual of the same race, it is said that in that case the two soldiers will have a duel. It is a custom for deciding priority when it comes to food and men, and in effect raises the skill level of their race as a whole. But in the case of a duel fought over a man, the outcome doesn't determine who will claim the man, instead merely determining “the order in which they will copulate”. Ultimately, after copulating with one, a man will end up having to copulate with the other. For that reason, should a man try to escape while they are dueling, they'll cancel the duel on the spot and change their target to the man; swarming him like bugs going after oozing tree sap.

Hespervide

An insectoid species of Myriapoda (centipedes, millipedes, etc.), which means 'ten thousand legs.' As this suggests, this species is known for their exceptionally long bodies and countless number of legs. They are giant creatures that snake through the forests and are feared for their carnivorous appetites and known for the subtle 'hiss' they give off as they crawl with their multiple legs. Not a single full adult has less than 100 legs, and as they grow from infancy, they sprout more legs, as well.

They have long antennae and generally large mandibles used as pincers for mincing their prey. They are known to molt to shed their exceptionally hard exoskeletons, which hunters may collect as raw material. These creatures often live underground and only in terrestrial areas such as forests and caves. They are known as the 'snakes of the insect world' due to their long bodies, their hissing sounds and their overall very stealthy hunting and movement style to sneak up on their prey and rip them to shreds with their mandibles.

Grand Mukade

Spoiler:

Ōmukade
Oomukade大百足
おおむかで

Translation: giant centipede
Habitat: mountains and caves; any dark and humid place big enough to hold it
Diet: carnivorous
CRITICAL WEAKNESS: human saliva

Appearance: Ōmukade are monstrous mukade–centipedes (Scolopendra subspinipes) with dark bodies and bright orange legs and heads. They are often depicted with dragon-like features. While their non-monstrous cousins can grow up to 20 cm in length, the upper size limit on yōkai mukade is not known.

Behavior: Like their smaller relatives, ōmukade are vicious and highly aggressive. The bite of a regular mukade is venomous and very painful, but rarely fatal. Ōmukade, on the other hand, are much more venomous and very strong. They have even been known to torment dragons.

An ōmukade’s exoskeleton is so tough that it can’t be pierced by weapons. They do have one weakness though: human saliva is toxic to them. A weapon coated in saliva may be able to pierce through its armor and wound it.

Interactions: Ōmukade are extremely rare. When they are seen, they pose a threat to all in the area. Throughout history, the responsibility of exterminating these monsters has fallen on the shoulders of brave warriors.

Legends: There is a famous bridge in Shiga Prefecture known as Seta no Karahashi. Long ago, a great serpent appeared on the bridge and would not move. The villagers were too afraid to approach the serpent, and so they could not cross.

One day, the brave warrior Fujiwara no Hidesato came to the bridge. He was not afraid of the serpent, and he crossed the bridge, crunching its great body under his feet. The serpent slithered back into the lake, and the bridge was clear again.

That night, a beautiful woman visited Hidesato. She introduced herself as the daughter of the dragon king of Like Biwa. The dragon king had sent her to Hidesato to ask for his help. Her family was being tormented by an ōmukade who lived on Mount Mikami. She knew that Hidesato must be a brave warrior, because he had so fearlessly trampled her body. Hidesato agreed to help the dragon king. He took up his sword and his bow and headed to the mountains.

Upon reaching Mount Mikami, Hidesato saw an enormous centipede coiled around its top. Its was so long that its body wrapped around the mountain seven and a half times. He fired his arrows at it until only one arrow remained, but he was unable to pierce the beast’s armor. Hidesato coated the tip of the arrow in his saliva, and said a prayer to Hachiman, the god of warriors. This time his arrow struck true, and he brought down the ōmukade.

The dragon king’s daughter was so grateful to Fujiwara no Hidesato that she gave him marvelous gifts: a bag of rice which never became empty no matter how much rice was taken from it; a roll of silk which never ran out no matter how much was cut from it; a cooking pot which always produced the most delicious food without the need for fire; and a large temple bell, which Hidesato donated to Mii-dera. The grateful dragon king also told Hidesato the secret to defeating Taira no Masakado, the rebel whom Hidesato had been charged with bringing down.

Lepis Sidhe

A race of moths, flies and butterflies and other insects with large, colorful, broad wings. 'Lepis' means 'scaly,' as in reference to their wings and 'Sidhe' being the Scottish word for 'Fairy.' This is because most have a more human-like shape akin to fairies, even though they are not classified as fairies. Lepis Sidhe, also called 'Lepids' are characterized by more than three derived features, some of the most apparent being the scales covering their bodies and wings, and a proboscis (Their tubular mouths/tongues. The scales are modified, flattened "hairs", and give butterflies and moths their extraordinary variety of colors and patterns. Almost all species have some form of membranous wings, except for a few that have reduced wings or are wingless. They grow from larvae that undergo complete metamorphosis at adulthood, usually from their pupa (cocoons) from silk, dust or minerals to transform.

Because of their scaly wings, they are able to hold in the tiniest of particles such as dust and pollen and flap their wings to release it at their leisure. These wings serve as 'magnets' for these types of very fine particles, which keeps their bodies from harm when exposed to volatile substances such as harmful gas and other airborn debris. Their wings also tend to serve as hynotic patterns that they can undulate slightly to hypnotize others and cast them in illusions. They can be used for intimidation as well, as some of these species are able to completely alter the patterns of their wings at will. They are a very mystic and mysterious class of insect, fluttering silently and always surrounded in a fine, powdery dust... Makes them seem to fit the description of a 'fairy,' even though they aren't.

However, the same way they are able to collect particles in their wings are they able to collect poisonous particles and spread them, as well. Some are even able to generate such particles from their wings as their main means of defense against larger prey, before they suck their insides dry with their proboscis. Their elongated tongues are able to pierce through very dense substances, and serve as very precise 'energy penetrators' to absorb life energy from what they are to touch with it.

Bee

Bees are flying insects closely related to wasps (The Vespids) and ants, and are known for their role in pollination and for producing honey and beeswax. Because of this, they often get along very well with the Lepis Sidhe, which are also pollinators. They are found anywhere there are plants.

Bees are adapted for feeding on nectar and pollen, the former primarily as an energy source and the latter primarily for protein and other nutrients. Most pollen is used as food for larvae.
Bees have a long proboscis that enables them to obtain the nectar from flowers, and also can be used as an 'energy penetrator' to drain pure energy from other creatures. Like the Lepis Sidhe, they are able to feed on pure energy, however they use this to create their honey and beeswax. However, not all Bees create honey.

Bees also identify very well with the Ants because of how hard they word, and can generally be described as the 'ants of the skies.' They are equipped with sharp, powerful stingers, some being strong enough to punch a hole through solid metal. Some bees are venomous, as well. They are commonly mistaken for the Vespids due to their similar physiology, however its in their personalities that there is a difference, and many times, the Bees and the Vespids end up as rivals, and on worse terms, even enemies. There are many cases of them working together, however, so they aren't a completely hostile race to one another. The wasps were the ancestors of bees, just like they were the wasps, until both strains evolved into different species. This means that they also prey on other insects and fleshy creatures, and the larger ones are known to take large animals to feast on.

The Bees are led by a Queendom, and have a rather heavy military force. Where the women are usually the workers and fighters, the men tend to serve as fighters and population control. The Queen Bee rules on high unquestioned and calls male subjects to help her produce thousands of larvae.

Vespervides (Vespids)

Large insects that seem to be the ancestor of both Bee and Ant. They are also known as 'Vespids.' In the insect world, these creatures are exceptionally high in rank, and serve as the 'population control' for most other insects, especially pests and parasites. Almost every pest insect species has at least one wasp species that preys upon it or parasitizes it, making wasps critically important in natural control of their numbers, or natural biocontrol. A majority of Vespids are parasitic and lay their eggs directly in or on the bodies of their hosts.

They are mostly hostile to most other creatures, and have a rivalry with their two strains of evolved brethren, the Bees and the Ants. This is because though Wasps are much more capable fighters than these insects, they are not organized when it comes to work, and basically only live to fight and kill. This makes it hard to get along with them, but being the best insect warriors there are, once they are on your side, they are the best of the best.

Their stingers are highly venomous, even moreso than the bees, and are both harder, longer and sharper, as well. They are much more slender, but taller than the bees, though many are still mistaken as bees (to the accusors dismay). They pride themselves on being their own class of insects. Though this rivalry is intense, they do still know their heritage and are able to work well with their cousins the Bees and the Ants when times require it. Though most times, they tend to keep to their own order.

As the 'pest control' of the Insect world, they are capable of killing any insectoid creature. Some are even aquatic as to kill insects in the water. They adapt to the weaknesses of the other insects to improve themselves and ensure that they can kill them. The only creatures they cannot seem to kill are their rivals, the bees, as the bees will fight back with all the burning passion of a Wasp due to their heritage. This also infuriates the Vespids, because they tend to like having control and striking fear into others. They are even capable of striking fear into the Arachnids, as they are prime targets to be used as hosts.

They are skilled as assassins as well, unlike the Bees who work better as military soldiers. A wasp is able to sneak up with the utmost swiftness and kill silently and instantly. They secrete venoms of all kinds, making their toxins extremely good for potent poisons. However, it's a death wish to get a Wasp's venom, so it is also prized as rare and valuable.

Like the Bees and Ants, they serve under one Queen. The Queens of each also intermingle quite often due to their relation, as they seem to be quite fond of their roots more than their subjects.

A large, flying creature more powerful than the hornet and the dragonfly. It has an incredibly long and sharp stinger that it can extend and terrible sickle-like arms for slicing. Its needle can cause an array of status ailments that are rather devastating, and it is extremely agile and fast as well. Kill it before it kills you. No matter what, its stinger is always extremely poisonous and not even good to touch. There is also the Wasp Queen, who is naturally, the queen of wasps. She is the most powerful and extremely large and is not taken down easily.

Ants

A strain of the Wasp species that has adapted to its own, similar to its cousin, the Bees. They have lost their wings and now scour the ground, but are known to be masters of the earth and work in a unit. Ants form colonies that range in size from a few dozen predatory individuals living in small natural cavities to highly organised colonies that may occupy large territories and consist of millions of individuals. Larger colonies consist mostly of sterile wingless females forming castes of "workers", "soldiers", or other specialised groups. Nearly all ant colonies also have some fertile males called "drones" and one or more fertile females called "queens". The colonies sometimes are described as superorganisms because the ants appear to operate as a unified entity, collectively working together to support the colony.

The ants have colonized every landmass there is, except those uninhabitable to life. Even then, they are highly adaptable. Their success in so many environments has been attributed to their social organisation and their ability to modify habitats, tap resources, and defend themselves. Their long co-evolution with other species has led to mimetic, commensal, parasitic, and mutualistic relationships with other insects, making them the most social of most insects.

Ant societies have division of labour, communication between individuals, and an ability to solve complex problems. Some species are valued in their role as biological pest control agents, like their ancestors and cousins, the Wasps.

Anatomy
The head has two strong jaws, the mandibles, used to carry food, manipulate objects, construct nests, and for defense. They are powerful enough to cut and tear metal, much like the stingers of their cousins. Like other insects, ants have an exoskeleton, an external covering that provides a protective casing around the body and a point of attachment for muscles, in contrast to the internal skeletons of humans and other vertebrates. Insects do not have lungs; oxygen and other gases such as carbon dioxide pass through their exoskeleton via tiny valves.

An ant's head contains many sensory organs. Like most insect races, ants have compound eyes made from numerous tiny lenses attached together. Ant eyes are good for acute movement detection, but do not offer a high resolution image. They also have small eyes on the top of the head that detect light levels and polarization. Compared to vertebrates, most ants have poor-to-mediocre eyesight and a few that live deep underground are completely blind. Two antennae are attached to the head; these organs detect chemicals, air currents, and vibrations; they also are used to transmit and receive signals through touch. They also have claws on their legs to help them scale sheer surfaces. They also have very small stingers that sometimes help them to immobilize prey.

They communicate through pheromones (like most insects) sounds and touch.

Also run by a Queendom, the Queens and some male ants have wings and are able to fly.

Caterpillarian

Insects which resemble caterpillars, but do not undergo metamorphosis, and remain caterpillars forever.

Insect Species List Caterp10

Okiku mushi
Okikumushi

於菊虫
おきくむし

Translation: Okiku bug
Habitat: wells around Himeji Castle
Diet: herbivorous

Appearance: Okiku mushi are caterpillar-like yōkai with the torso of a human woman. They are called Okiku mushi because it is believed they are born from the vengeance of Okiku’s ghost, from the story Banchō sarayashiki.

Origin: According to her story, the servant girl Okiku was murdered by her lover. Her body was tied up, she was tortured, and then her body was discarded into the well of Himeji Castle. After her death, a number of strange occurrences were blamed on Okiku’s ghost. One of these was the sudden proliferation of a certain type of caterpillar—known in English as the Chinese windmill (Byasa alcinous). The chrysalis of this butterfly was thought to look like a tied up woman’s body, which the locals immediately associated with Okiku’s story. It was believed that her spirit must have come back as these bugs, spawned by whatever part of her grudge remained on this world.

While this insect is commonly known as the jakō ageha in Japan today, it is also known by its nickname Okiku mushi. This is in part due to the popularity of the Okiku story, as well as to the clever marketing of the local shopkeepers around Himeji Castle, who during the Edo period sold the chrysalises of these insects as souvenirs to tourists at the shrines near Himeji Castle.

Musca

A bug type monster also referred to as "Lord of the flies." Their body is small, but they possess tremendous magical energy and they fly around the sky at high speed using the wings on their back. They're also called "Lord of gluttony" and their lust and appetite are extremely ravenous. They're dangerous monsters. Whenever they see food they devour it all and whenever they see a human man, they attack and try to forcibly have sex.

A beelzebub enthralled by a man's choking odor. The odor of a man's semen excites their appetite and lust unbearably, and makes them hold the meat rod in their mouth indefinitely.
They're capable of eating anything, but what they most prefer is the sweat, saliva and semen of humans. To them, human men are a treat that is prioritized above all else. If there's a man in front of them, they'll thoroughly lick up the sweat all over his body, thrust their tongue in his mouth and greedily slurp his saliva and suck his penis, gulping down the semen resulting from the ejaculation induced, all with an ecstatic expression.

They're so ravenous as to be regarded as lords of gluttony, so of course they aren't satisfied by just having sex once. If they take a liking to a man, they'll stay in the area, flying around him, frequently attacking the man in pursuit of sex.

In this way, they are extremely dangerous monsters, but they're also symbolic of a bountiful harvest. Once they've taken a liking to someone, no matter how much food is devoured by them, even more food and wealth will be accumulated. No matter how much one has sex with them and releases semen, he'll never run out of stamina and lust and he'll instead become able to fire even more semen at them.

They're extremely selfish and they eat when they feel like it and attack men when they feel like attacking. Even if one objects to what they're doing, they generally won't listen at all and instead, you'll be pushed down on the spot and be deliciously devoured.

Since they're drawn by the scent of food scraps and the odor of human sweat, etc. if you don't wish to be attacked, you'd best keep yourself and your surroundings clean. The odor of sweat which is normally regarded as foul, is the fragrance of the greatest treat to them. It does none other than stimulate their brain and lower body, igniting their desire.

Assassin Bug

A very large insect with a stemmed horn and wearing a ninja-like attire for camouflage, where only the tiny eyes on its head and the large intimidating eyes upon its thorax can be seen. Is skilled in the assassin arts, and is known as an ambush predator for all types of other creatures, and is even parasitic and filled with disease. When it fights, it stands on its hind legs and uses its four arms for various means of offense and defense. When in need of escape, it is known to get down on all six of its appendages to increase its speed, and is very stealthy.

Lawyer Bug

Anthropomorphic insects with six arms and six legs. They are masters of legalese and with their hypercalculative insectoid minds, they can typically analyze any information and make a competent case for anyone or anything in any situation, making them the best of the best. They are very cute, being usually the size of a small child, with incredibly large eyes, with what looks to be a hat with flat, flowing antennae fused to their scalps. They have small bolt-like markings on their cheeks and the tops of their heads. They wear six-legged pants and six-armed suits, and strangely enough, have small tails that resemble that of some sort of animal -- completely independent from their humanoid-insectoid bodies.

Mod

A strange type of primitively formed insect with three round body segments. Unlike other insects, they only have two round hands with slender digits and two feet, and do not even have arms or legs which connect them. They have a constant look of worry on their faces and their heads are larger than their torsos, but their torsos are larger than their rearmost body segments, making them completely disproportionate. They use the weight of their large heads to move the rest of their bodies forward.

Mosquito

*Miniature Flies that have acquired their own separate classification from normal flies.

Mosquitos are an insectoid pseudohuman race who have four insectoid limbs, antennae, compound eyes, an insect abdomen, wings and other traits of a mosquito.
Members of the race posses a needle-like proboscis inside their mouths that they use to penetrate the skin of their prey and suck liquids such as blood. Their saliva possesses anesthetic properties that they spread over the flesh of their prey before penetrating them. While they mainly subsist on blood, they can also drink honey and fruit juices.
They're concerned that there are very few partners to suck blood from during their study abroad.

Flight: Using her insectoid wings, she can fly. However, she needs her small figure and light weight to do so, and cannot fly if she gained too much weight.
Anesthetic Saliva: To aid in the sucking of blood, her saliva has strong anesthetic properties. Just licking on a certain part of a body causes all feeling of pain to dissapear there.
Proboscis: Hidden in her mouth, above her tongue is an extendable, sharp proboscis that she uses to suck blood.

A bug type monster known as the "vampire of the insect world" because they bite humans and suck their blood. They have meticulously cunning personalities, and soon as they spot a human man who will serve as prey, they will fly around the area for a while and wait for the perfect moment to bring down their prey before attacking.

Their wings make a distinctive buzzing noise during flight that disturbs the hearts of those that hear it, and alerts them to the monster's presence. At the same time, the person will lose concentration and get distracted. For that reason a man being targeted will already be seized in their embrace by the time he comes back to his senses, and he'll end up having his blood sucked.

Their ordinary staple food is flower nectar. Although they prefer men's blood, they don't suck it indiscriminately. They mainly suck blood during sexual intercourse with a man. Not only is blood used as nourishment for the sake of egg-laying, by obtaining the information from blood and mana contained in blood fluid in advance, they're able to adjust their own womb to more easily receive that blood and mana based on that information. In other words, they perform the act of blood-sucking to make it easier to bear the offspring of the man who will become their husband from then on, and adjust themselves to serve as excellent mothers suitable for raising children that inherit their father's blood. In short, sucking blood is like making a kind of marking for them. They're not just after the blood, they're after the man himself in order to form a couple.

Also, during blood-sucking they inject the man with venomous saliva. Due to the venom, the place blood was sucked from will become hot and itchy and throb, seeking pleasure. No matter what the man himself does, he won't be able to obtain pleasure, and the throbbing will not subside.

The bite mark will become like an erogenous zone, one that only reacts to the one who sucked the blood. The throbbing can only be soothed if they touch it, crawl their tongue along it, suck blood once again, and the pleasure induced is like having the penis teased. In this way, once a man has had his blood sucked, even if he tries to run away, he'll be agonized by the bite mark which throb in yearning for the vamp mosquito. They would never let such a man escape. Instead, they would fly around the area and wait for the perfect opportunity to sexually violate the man.

They also perform blood-sucking during sexual intercourse, increasing the number of bite mark that serve as both erogenous zones, and proof that a man is theirs, thus increasing the throbbing and pleasure in their husband's body. Additionally, every time they suck his blood, their womb will yearn for their husband semen, and they will then suck on the penis with it and sip semen.

Furthermore, concerning their alias "vampire of the insect world", it seems the original vampires (kyuuketsuki), vampires (vanpaia), feel upset about it. Some vampires (vanpaia) have stated the following, "if they're going to bear the name vampire (kyuuketsuki), they should have pride as monsters, and not easily bear human offspring." However, it seems it was humans that started calling them that name in the first place. Of course, the vamp mosquitos themselves are busy copulating to become pregnant with their husband's offspring, so they appear to be completely disinterested in this subject.

Shinchū
神虫
しんちゅう

Translation: divine insect
Habitat: the southern mountains of Enbutai
Diet: evil spirits and demons, particularly those which spread disease

Appearance: Shinchū are great insect gods which resemble silkworm moths larger than elephants. The have saucer-like eyes, a gaping mouth full of sharp teeth, eight legs, enormous wings, and a long stinger protruding from the rear of their segmented abdomen.

Behavior: Shinchū are holy insects. While they have a ferocious appearance, shinchū do not attack humans. Instead, they feed on demons and evil spirits. In particular, they prey upon yōkai which cause disease and spread epidemics. They rip their victims apart violently as they feed, leaving pools of blood and body parts in their wake. Their appetites are as big as the shinchū themselves. Every morning, a shinchū will consume three thousand demons, and every evening it will devour three thousand more.

Shinchū are native to the mountains in the southern part of the continent Enbutai (known in English as Jambudvipa) in Indian cosmology. It is the southernmost of the four continents surrounding Shumisen (Mount Meru), the sacred mountain at the center of the cosmos. Enbutai is a forested land, and is the only continent inhabited by humans. It is also the only continent from which achieving enlightenment through study and meditation as a human being is possible. Therefore, shinchū play an important role in protecting humans from evil spirits who might try to interfere in their spiritual development.

Origin: Silkworm moths are considered holy creatures, and the term shinchū has been used as a poetic name for these insects since ancient times. They were held as miraculous creatures, due to their both their physical transformation from worms into moths, and for the precious silk which they produced.

Shinchū’s roots lie in ancient Chinese and Indian religion. They are related to the wrathful deities of Hinduism and Buddhism. The most well known depiction of a shinchū is in a set of five paintings depicting wrathful deities exterminating evil spirits. A shinchū is depicted alongside four other protector gods: Tenkeisei, the god of heavenly punishment, Sendan Kendatsuba, a god of music, protector of children, and member of the Eight Legions, Shōki, the demon queller, and Bishamonten, chief of the Four Heavenly Kings. This set of paintings is revered as a National Treasure of Japan.

Slugbug

A very aggressive insectoid that commonly gets into all types of brawls, typically with the fists. They live to fight, yet fight to live, and there seems to be nothing much more than that. However, there is a game that involves hitting someone when you see something specified by the terms of the game, or when a Slugbug that you have been rooting for in combat loses the fight.
